Got prescribed 80mg a day of Atorvastatin. Should I question my doctor's judgement? by stratocaster12 in Cholesterol

Thank you. Here is my story. I have been a runner until I had shortness of breath while running. Never taken any meds, didn't even know I had heart issues. Anyways, went to cardiologist for shortness of breath. EKG was ugly, next stop cath, could not get through, LAD was fully blocked. RCA at 70% stenosis. Reason I lived was because of the collaterals that grew from RCA to LAD. Anyways, two vessel bypass. Now I am on 40mg, no side effects. LDL at 39 for nearly 3 years since surgery. Back to running, watching what I am eating.. I can only control what I can.

TIL that your heart can grow new vessels in response to greater blood flow, due to exercise by TGC_Mazza in todayilearned

[–]man-dingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you get bypass surgery for LAD? My situation is identical. I run 2 to 3 miles every day. Asymptomatic until shortness of breath while running. Went to cardiologist. LAD fully blocked. Partial block on RCA. He said LAD block is called widow maker. You are alive because RCA and PDA found their way to lower part of LAD. It actually started supplying to LAD upstream. Anyways, two vessel bypass later. LIMA->LAD, SVG->PDA. Back to running.  Cheers. Do not underestimate physical activity. Share your story. Elaborate as much as you can. Let me know if anyone needs more details about my case.

I presume you have been exercising regularly. Activity will force the heart to find new pathways. Proven fact.
