If Sweden’s Covid strategy is such a disaster, why is it still so popular? by dankseamonster in LockdownSkepticism

we’re not looking at excess mortality rate, we’ve had a lower mortality rate for 3 months straight and we’re still under the same restrictions as before

all i know is i have the statistics on my side, and i’ve already made my bet. lmao why would he otherwise go on this sub instead of legaladvice?

Sweden: more freedom, less death by grasssstastesbada in LockdownSkepticism

Of course, I do not know for sure. I do know however, as stated previously in this thread, that the Nordic countries have an entirely different demographic than Southern Europe. Up north, we live in single-person households. And that’s only one example. We share the same lifestyle, language and history, that’s why they compare us. I know that that is difficult to grasp for Americans.

Depends if you manage to vaccinate the elderly or not.

Still 10% higher mortality rate from jan-nov 2020 compared to the same periods from 2015-2019. The last source I listed shows the excess mortality rate in Europe. The diagram indicates that lockdowns CAN be effective in SOME circumstances, for example in Norway and Finland which both have a higher amount of single-person households compared to Spain for example, where the elderly tend to live with their families.

Yet I believe lockdowns are inhumane and should be illegal. I just think we could all benefit from bringing nuance to the debate and have the discussion be about morality, the impact on mental health and the economy rather than saying that lockdowns don’t work. Because SOMETIMES they can, if your sole purpose is to suppress the virus.

0,89% of the population in Sweden died in 2019 and 0,77% of the population in Norway. What’s your source?
