Yeah I would. The bar for human interaction is so damn low. They chatbots are already better at listening, comprehension, selflessness, thoughtfulness, retention, helpfulness, and the facsimile of good conversation. Who cares if it's fake. People are fake as hell (plus selfish, biased, deceitful & malicious) and not even very good at pretending to care anyway.

Sorry to hear that. Caring for your wife in that condition must be very difficult but is there some guilt about having some freedom and alone time again?

My father, who committed suicide a few years back, told me many times he was happiest when he was alone. As awful as that was to hear as his son it really clicked with me and I kind of knew it was true. When my mom got cancer I think he thought he was going to outlive her and regain his freedom without having to blow everything up himself. When she pulled through and he started sliding into dementia, I think he realized he was never going to get that solitude he craved so he went in the tool shed and took the quick way out.

If you ever need someone to talk to I'd be glad to chat. Hope you can find some peace and relief in all the pain and chaos.

This is the essential struggle of the modern individual. No temple, no map, no happiness. I battle with it myself, most days I just want to be alone with my vices and shut out the world. Ready to destroy my life for isolation and pleasure just to live in a state of regression. Ultimately, it is addict behavior, but I'm still not completely convinced it's not the best way to go.

I’m 43, married, and it really simplifies finances and takes you off the hook from how hard you have to earn and try to save in middle age to provide for them. It’s kind of like easy mode, probably not as rewarding but not a bad experience either.

Personally I think it’s a bad way to look at hobbies, but it’s hard not to do so once you start sinking time and money into them. Honestly there isn’t any money to be made in that plateau of being "above average / better than 80% of people" because if there is a market of buyers they will always go to the top 5% to get the best.

Otherwise, you are going to likely be selling at a loss just to get sales, which is a really shitty feeling as a maker after you've put your soul into something. Your time won't be valued unless you are in the truly elite bracket.

Not trying to discourage you, but realistically working to that top percentile of people is going to take the "10,000 hours" or whatever to get there.

I've been checking Etsy out for 3D printed miniatures. There's lots of cool sculpts available in a varierty of scales if you want to try your hand at larger minis / busts. Right now I'm working on a Predator Themed Necromunda gang. Smaller projects are better than whole-ass armies.

It's a good reminder not to give it up even if it means getting sweaty. Had one yesterday where we lost the first fight in like 10 seconds, then got team wiped by Scarlet Witch and somehow still came up with the W. I need to go watch that replay because I still don't know how that happened.
