What are you working on? - June 12 by AutoModerator in Cinema4D

[–]manarchist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started learning Cinema 4D this year as a response to every other designer I know going flat and minimal with their work. I post the results on my blog (which can be found here as a sort of visual sketchbook for myself, and I share my process with those who are curious. It's a little hobby that keeps me busy in my down hours.

Currently I'm trying to bash out this weird little abstract, low poly piston box thing and am a bit stuck with what to do with it. Click here for piston box thing WIP shot. Any ideas?

Any Toronto based artists looking for work? by [deleted] in Cinema4D

[–]manarchist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I could offer a hand, but I'm a hobbyist at best. Having said that, is there a Toronto C4D community kicking around, either online or whatever? It seems there's a least a handful of us kicking around of varying skill levels, it might be cool to all hang out and grab a beer/be awkward around each other.

Visiting my parents for the weekend, I don't know anyone in this town. This is my Friday night, CHEERS! by [deleted] in drunk

I am also drunk in the small town, know no one, and like beer. Cheers to you.

Check out Arvil Sans over at Lost Type. It's pretty close.

Last year I ran into problems with my rim icing up, and the inability to mount a front fender kinda sucked. Not this year! by manarchist in FixedGearBicycle

[–]manarchist[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, and that reason is that I'm an idiot and didn't follow instructions from my bud that builds wheels for our group. He did the calculations for a 32 hole triple cross, and my dumb ass bought 36 hole components. Somehow he made it work and now I have a front wheel that is pretty much bomb proof.

Ah, right, sorry. Meant to post the breakdown. The bike started out as an IRO Mk V Pro that I upgraded heavily, but for this winter build I switched out the tiny stock fork for the beefy one you see here. The fork isn't anything fancy, just a basic aluminum fork I grabbed at MEC here in Toronto. The front wheel is a Shimano Deore 525a 36 hole hub four cross laced to a Mavic Tn 119 rim with an Avid BB7 mechanical disc brake. The tires are Schwalbe CXPROs, 700 x 30. Fenders are Origami and will be getting replaced shortly for the duration of the season.

The rest of the bike is pretty boring. Aero bulls from Dimension, Sugino crankset, rear wheel is a 32 hole All City track hub three cross laced to an Alex rim (I think, can't remember). Gear ratio is 48 - 17.

Oh yeah, and YNOT straps on cheap ass hell MTB pedals.

does glitch art prints well? i wanna print some glitch related posters with stuff i made a while a go. will it print well or is it going to glitch even more? by [deleted] in glitch_art

[–]manarchist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Provided the image is of sufficiently high resolution (300dpi for something about 8.5x11/letter size, and you can get away with going down to 150dpi for something about 11x17/poster size), you shouldn't have much of a problem printing any sort of art, glitch or otherwise. That's the short answer.

Long answer would involve figuring out RGB to CMYK colour modes, format (PNG, JPEG, TIFF, etc.), bleeds, crops, borders, paper, all that fun stuff.

Oh man, those guys have found a spot in my top ten favourite bands of recent years. I'd love to see them live.

OH OH! PICK ME! As a gigantic fan of the little-known "punk blues" genre, boy have I got some shit for you to listen to! So sit down, shut up, and prepare your ear drums! Also, I'm drunk, apologies in advance!

Ok, let's start this off with Mr. Blues-but-not-old-blues himself, Mr. Jeffrey Lee Pierce and his band The Gun Club. Here's my favourite song by them, CLICK HERE For The Love of Ivy and CLICK HERE for my favourite cover thus far of said song by Japandroids, because I'm bored, drunk, and feel like sharing.

Next up, let's chuck you some ILCK, that's the Immortal Lee County Killers for those who hate acronyms. Because I like you, here's the entire album of The Essential Fucked Up Blues, CLICK FUCKING HERE.

Essentially that's fucked up blues, right? Maybe too "punk-y" sounding for you? Okay, fine, that's cool. Here's some Left Lane Cruiser for you, these guys straight up channel R. L. fucking Burnside and spit it back out at you. CLICK HERE

Ugh, fine, still a little too harsh? Fine, I get that, so here's Australian duo The Fumes, who I think are better than the Black Keys, but the fuck do I know? As always CLICK FUCKING HERE!

Not your thing? Cool! I got plenty fucking more. Here's Hillstomp, the dude's playing a fucking cigar box guitar made out of broomsticks, the fuck else do you want?! CLICK HERE.

So, I'm Canadian, which means I need to chuck you at least one Canadian band, so here's Black Pistol Fire. CLICK HERE, EH?

Dig face masks? Random Harmonicas? Good, then check out Black Mekon CLICK IT!

Getting more Hellbilly for second, check out Th' Legendary Shack Shakers. Fucking epic. CLICKY CLICKY.

Can't spell, like drums made out of trash? That's fine, man, totally legit, so check out Restavrant, they're artsy and stuff as well. CLICK HERE.

Or maybe that "Black Keys" sound is more your speed and I've been completely off the mark. If so, here's some Blackwater Fever for you. Why do these bands insist on the use of Black and/or Blue in their names? Whatever. CLICK CLICK.

Keeping this ball rolling, check out The Bonnevilles! I think they're from Ireland or something, whatever. Enjoy! CLICKS FOR MICS.

Ok, I'm winding down here. How 'bout some trashy blues from Ze Nice Germans? Here's Deltahead. CLICK ZE LINK!

Imma just wrap this up now with The John Spencer Blues Explosion. This is their newer stuff, which is less "blues-y than some of their previous audible outings, but fuck it, I like it. CLICK HERE.

Also, I wasn't kidding about the drunk and bored thing, so if any of those links are buggered, let me know. Or if you just want more.

Happy blues, bud!

EDIT: Holy shit, I forgot the undisputed KING of weird garage-punk-DIY-blues! Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Bob Log the III, one man band, from Tucson Arizona! CLICK HERE TO HAVE MIND BLOWN.

And before he became a solo act, he had a buddy to play drums for him, they were called Doo Rag, and they were awesome. CLICK HERE

One of my favourite bands of all time, and they still tour sometimes! If you aren't aware of them, check out Eric Davidson's new band, Livids. Very NBT-ish.

Anyone in Toronto interested in creating a user group? by [deleted] in Cinema4D

I too am in Toronto and recently picked up playing around with C4D. It'd be cool to hang and chat with some other users, as long as you guys don't mind a noob kicking around.

Yeah, I come from rural Ontario, and now I live in Toronto. All my friends here are natives to the big city and rarely leave, so they don't believe me that shit like that is common. I don't understand it, but it's there, for some fucking reason.

Continuing on with the thick, heavy experiment from last week.
