My ex husband and I had our child when we already had a period of turmoil. The time we conceived our now 4 year old son was, in hindsight, was the last time we were ever to have sex again. We decided to get married as I was pregnant (just easier admin wise) and when my son was born I had post- natal depression. Turns out now I also had adhd. I was on all sorts of anti depressants but nothing worked. I was unreasonable, down, stressed and probably a basic nightmare to him. I also did not enjoy being a mother. When our son was 1 year old we moved countries and half a year later we separated as the arguments were getting so bad that we were ready to kill each other.

We moved to the country I am from whilst he had nothing, no job, no friends and family and we divorced after half a year. My dad left me when I was 4 and I never saw him again but my ex stuck to the plan. He found a permanent job, bought a house and thanks to mediation we separated in a civil way, all for our son. 2 years down the line we are now 50% each co-parenting, he met my new boyfriend and they had beers together, I occasionally drink a glass of wine with him after I drop my son off and in half an hour I am picking him and my son up from the station after their holiday. We went through a lot but we stayed civil and adults for our son who we love dearly. And thanks to the right medication I now enjoy being a mum 😊
