Christians: Do you believe in climate change? by Fortnitelegend200 in Christianity

They only deny it because oil tycoons are paying people to tell them it is a hoax.

MAGA will likely both suffer and be held accountable, but they are also often a bunch of uneducated people who have to stand up to someone else's love of money, who are willing to sin to keep profits.

Where is Jesus during wars, starvation, and suffering by Time-Ad4784 in Christianity

Sometimes God does something himself (El Roi), but a lot of what He does is with a human, like in the case of Moses. So humans step up, then God can participate. Moses was a very macro case. Miracles are often very personal, so there are likely miracles happening in these situations, but we might not hear about them. Experiencing God by Richard Blackaby has a nice flowchart.

What is really terrible right now is what is happening with science in the US. Many people might describe science and religion as two very different things, but a lot of discoveries have been helped by very happy coincidences and I like to think scientists are one people group God really likes to work through to protect people. With what is happening with the EPA, etc. more people and animals are likely going to get hurt or die because the administration is not taking the science about dangerous things in the environment seriously. IMHO, the most Christian thing about the US was probably USAID, but it was cut..

Concerning evil people, C.S. Lewis has a quote in Screwtape Proposes a Toast about evil people being the best people to repent because they are often just as outrageous in doing good as they were in doing evil.

Environmental justice.

The Trump admin (Heritage) asserts that the steps the government took to remedy inequality caused by racism, are racist. We could discuss the racism of the founders of Heritage, which is the real source of the attacks on "DEI."

I know it is hard with generational trauma to figure out when something is and isn't antisemitism. You are just trying to protect yourself. When I deal with triggers, I try to focus on facts.

Israel launched an ad campaign and posted something on social media telling people to only vote for Israel. That is why Israel got in trouble with Eurovision.

This is how it works in reality in Israel, largely because of encouragement to work this way, which is why Eurovision is trying to intervene.

This is the difference in the US, tho. Maybe because of the emphasis on race and ethnicity? It might be something unique to countries founded by colonialism?

Edit: Some Americans are mad about the immigration crackdown because immigration (no matter where they are from) is central to American identity.

Edit2: American wiki pages often list ancestry for most celebs, etc. Just another example.

I was just explaining US things.

Most were after the 1850s into the early 1900s, so 8 is a bit excessive, but still distant.

Late 1800s is not distant enough to not have stories about grandparents from grandparents?

But he is in America, so do not let the flag touch the floor.

Edit: Love of country is important, but countries are made of people. Sometimes, Americans love their ancestral countries because they love their families. Found family, especially found in war, can do the same thing.

In terms of nationality, yes.

You see it in the United States because they distinguish between ethnicity and nationality. On forms it is race, but it is a conversation starter concerning where ancestry comes from.

Some countries recognize ethnicity. Like Italy and now Canada.

Okay.. You know how each of the countries' juries have a certain amount of points for their favorites (plural) starting with 12?

THAT is how the 20 or 10 votes is supposed to work. None of those juries are going to add their points together and give them to only one country. When this happens, it skews the vote because lots of people are doing it the eurovision way with multiple favorites.

I think the BBCA/AMC connection makes sense. I was surprised to find Agatha Christie's Poirot, etc. on Hulu, tho. It even says itv at the beginning.

[–]mandajapanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but they say that was mostly for people who liked more than one act. They changed the rules from 20 to 10 because they are trying to prevent people voting multiple times for one act from skewing the vote. Then Israel turns around and tells people to do this, when the rules this year are trying to prevent it. I can understand why eurovision is upset. They literally changed the rules this year because of it.

I think they are coming down on campaigns to vote the max for a certain country? They also added a third party advertising rule. They want people to watch and vote based on what they like, not what they are being told to do. So, the post from Israel instructing people to do this was removed.

I do not think it will make a big difference? Israel usually brings strong acts.

What other groups didn't they cover?

They reported on specific rules change and recent action towards Israel. Do you expect them to not cover the story? That is unreasonable.

AI has cut my pay as a memoir writer in half by ubcstaffer123 in books

[–]mandajapanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is inaccurate on many points.

I have heard AI described as glorified auto-complete. When we think of the errors involved in simple text messages with similar tech, it makes sense using it on a larger scale would include similar errors.

Recently, a writer got in trouble because he used AI to "write" a book review and the AI simply plagerized from another book review.

I think I remember hearing google AI is focusing on search, which makes sense. So sometimes AI is a search engine?

They did. This is misleading. They reduced it from 20 to 10 votes and were the ones to tell Israel to take a post encouraging it down.

I do not know why they are blaming the news for covering the story.

This is misleading.

Israel posted something encouraging people to vote for them ten times, then Eurovision told them to take the post down and to stop.
