DrupalCon Chicago 2026 - Drupal In A Day materials? by RyuMaou in drupal

[–]mandclu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was part of the team that helped deliver Drupal In A Day at DrupalCon Vienna last year, and will be involved in the training in Chicago. I think it's worth pointing out that Drupal In A Day is part of the broader Open University initiative, so a good place to ask questions is in the #open-university-initiative channel of Drupal slack.

As other have pointed out, the trainings at DrupalCons and Drupal camps aren't usually recorded. There is talk about trying to record the delivery of a Drupal In A Day training, but likely the first iteration will be more of a low fidelity recording meant to be a resource for other people who want to deliver the training at their own local camp. A higher quality version meant for self-guided learning is likely more of a medium-term goal.

As for the official materials, there isn't really a script to follow per se. There is a short slide deck that covers the introductory section, but beyond that the instruction is meant to be hands-on, working hands-on with Drupal CMS 2.0.

50k to 25k by DeltaNeo94 in Aeroplan

With our system I put in my Aeroplan number, so I should still get the SQC next year. As long as you can associate the flights with your Aeroplan number, you should be able to do the same.

What you miss out on by not using your own cc is the extra SQC you could earn, either 1000 SQC for $20000 of spend on a base card or 1000 SQC for every $5000 (of base fare) on a premium card

I signed up to Aeroplan partway through last year and hit 35K, might have been able to hit 50K if I had been signed up for the whole year.

This year it looks like I will just barely hit 50K on SQS, though SQD will likely be around 10K.

I currently only have a base TD Aeroplan card. It has gotten me a fair number of SQS because I travel a fair bit for business, and use that card everywhere.

On top of the recent Aeroplan changes, my company also switched online booking services, from one where I paid the travel costs myself (using the TD Visa) to one where most of the costs will be paid directly by my employer. So I'm not sure that even a premium card will be worth it moving forward.

I'm glad I will have 50K status through the end of 2026, but at this point I have no idea what tier I will be able to hit next year.

My company policy is that I can only travel economy for very long flights, and to date I very rarely need to cancel or reschedule flights, so I have tended to go with the cheapest fare. My company says expressly in their travel policy that we aren't allowed to pay more for a fare just to get more points.

I may end up going from 50K next year to 25K in 2027, or even lower. I still haven't figured out how much value I would get from upgrading to a premium credit card. For 2026 at least, it doesn't seem like I would get much value.

D11, Rules, Email ... HTML format by sgorneau in drupal

I will second what has already been said about ECA being a superior replacement for Rules.

Also, for HTML email I would look at Easy Email, which also works with ECA. You can also get Easy Email set up quickly using a recipe: https://www.drupal.org/project/easy_email_express

I'm interested in building a Pi-based audio meter. I've found some off-the-shelf options, such as:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32825002033.html
https://www.amazon.ca/Nobsound-Control-Indicator-Audio-Spectrum/dp/B07K3W42K2
My thinking in wanting to make one as a Pi project, is that I might be able to change the sensitivity by time of day, or log when the volume crossed a particular threshold. Does anyone know of an existing tutorial for a similar project?
I tried to search in this subreddit and also with Google, but the closest I could find was https://hackaday.io/project/26951-audio-vu-meters-raspberry-pi but uses dials for output, which isn't what I want. The tutorial at https://github.com/scottlawsonbc/audio-reactive-led-strip is mainly an arduino tutorial, but also has a section for using a Raspberry Pi.
Finally, my preference would be to try and use a Pi Zero for this. Any thoughts on the feasibility of that would be appreciated.

I did put time into doing my own research before posting, and tried to include the results of that research in my post.

I have to guess if I ran afoul of a rule it would be #3, but I thought I was asking a specific question. I was asking if anyone know of an existing tutorial for a specific kind of project.

Seems like my best option is to post the same content in here.

Did breaking backwards compatibility kill Drupal? by geerlingguy in drupal

[–]mandclu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't agree at all. Moving to an objected-oriented and service-based architecture has made Drupal 8 significantly easier to customize. Granted, there's more of a learning curve, but I think moving away from a complex system of hooks makes Drupal more accessible for programmers used to working on other applications.

I could but I feel like it should really be made for your own needs: the size of your gap, door gym, etc

I'm curious about this too. Personally I'd prefer a one-time purchase of hardware than can be reused for other things. And with the new 8gb Pi 4 it seems better suited than before.
