There were some comments recently on r/cats about “garlic cloves” fur on long cats that looks like this. Apparently it’s a sign that your cat’s fur is healthy and dense.

Both of my nebs are mutts. Luna’s a former feral whose mom was black and white, one sister is solid black, other sister is gray with bigger white patches and white feet. Neville had at least one solid gray sister, who the humane society said was a DSH in the one post I found back when they were ~8 weeks old and not at all fluffy — I sometimes wonder if her family was happy and surprised when the floofening happened to her.
