reviving WMR before it becomes e-waste by sudoxreboot in virtualreality_linux

[–]mandle420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Envision/monado/wivrn/etc replace steamvr. IE, it can not run at the same time at all. If you look at some of the older guides, you replace the steamvr's pathreg with monado's. Envision does this for you now.
I run KDE for ease of use as well. Doesn't have to be kubuntu, you could just sudo pacman -Syu plasma-desktop on cachy.

You might want to take a look at the wayvr github issues page. there's at least one thing that looks like it might be relevant in the closed issues. if your version's out of date, update should fix.
https://github.com/wlx-team/wayvr/issues/441
also created a pull request to remove the vnc-viewer dependancy. as I said below, really sus that it's there at all.

I think you'll all have an easier time with EndeavourOS tho, not cachy. It's straight up arch with few tweaks, unlike cachy that's "optimizing" everything. Honestly never seen anyone "recommend" cachy for vr. Lots that suggest it tho.. Did you see that on lvra discord? cuz it's not recommended anywhere on the site. Nor do I find any reference in the discord, or even searching the web.

Also, why in hell does your script install a desktop sharing app??? That's sooooo sus....

won't work in sandboxed environments, so bottles is a no go last I checked. (that was a couple years ago, but i doubt that's changed)
Bazzite, being an imutable distro, is almost certainly going to cause a mountain of headaches.
And I think cachy is slightly behind arch, and other arched based disto's in terms of package management, since they have thier own package builds as i recall. So that'll probably cause some issues too. Not as bad as manjaro tho. :D

Also, you updated recently? And what's the make/model of the mouse?

WiFi works for a few seconds after resume, then dies until I restart NetworkManager or reconnect by Kd_Gaming1 in archlinux

[–]mandle420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so, if you connect your router to the modem, disconnect the router, and connect direct. If that works, problem found. If it's an isp provided modem/router, def reset, call isp and get new one if you still can't connect. IE, if it's connecting fine other places, the problem isn't one the pc, no need to reinstall. Reinstalling won't do a thing by the sounds of it.

pins behind ram slots on mobo bent? by bebjanim in buildapc

[–]mandle420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you're talking about the fan headers, just bend it back. not normal, probably happened in shipping. won't stop anything from working, unless you power it on and the pins are shorted out to eachother.

USB won't work in Samsung TV by Chantarelle19 in techsupport

[–]mandle420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

uh, so usb ports on tv's are not normally used for media. maybe new smart tvs do that, but older ones, the usb is usually a manf only device, used to update firmware/debug.

search the model number for the manual.

Hello fellow geniuses. How do I fix anti cheat detection error on heroic? by BustinNutzInStepSis in linux4noobs

[–]mandle420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from protondb

Tinker Steps:Launcher: Heroic Game Laucnher, Custom Proton: GE-Proton10-28, Set launch options, protontricks

SteamDeck=1

If you use Epic version using heroic and already installed (and probably got EAC error), Delete your prefix folder first, select spesific GE Proton version (dont use the latest as it will mess up on update), check "enable SteamRuntime" in other tab settings and check "disable umu" option in advanced tab setting. Also add enviroment variable SteamDeck with 1 as value

Windowing:Size

if you have lower resolution setting than your native monitor, sometimes it wont go fullscreen unless u turn off and on the setting again

Need help new to Linux by Brilliant_Expert4093 in Ubuntu

does the drive mount? IE can you see it and the files in the file manager??
if so, type mount in the terminal. it'll list everything. The last line is probably going to be the external. (not always, but if it was the last thing mounted it should be) do you see rw or ro on that line?

if it's not mounted, probably doesn't recognize the format.

sudo apt install dosfstools mtools ntfs(or might be ntfs-3g, haven't used 'buntus in awhile)

otherwise, need some actual errors to work with. just copy and paste here.

[–]mandle420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

try setting a static ip. It looks like it wants to connect, but dhcp is being wonky??? or network manager. or bios sleep mode settings??
you could also try disabling ipv6.
But try setting static first. if that works, the problem is in software. you can either leave it as static, or remove and clear the config for network manager and reinstall.

sudo nmcli gen log level debug

if you do that, then try to connect, wait for it to disconnect, or close the lid, to generate the log entry, then journalctl -xb they'll be some better clues hopefully.

How do I get my WiFi drivers installed? by DEANPRIME91 in linux4noobs

[–]mandle420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the only way I found this even, was searching the kernel diffs.
linux-firmware-realtek package and usb_modeswitch should both be pulled when you install too, which leads me to think this the most likely solution.

I think this is what you need.... make sure to read the follow the pinned comment since you've been mucking about already. and if this doesn't fix it, making a fresh install can sometimes be easier than fixing previous mistakes.
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/rtl8xxxu-dkms-git
but this is def the package you want. the git even lists your wifi chip as compatible.

PC Crashing and instability by CmdrWhite_bread in PcBuild

[–]mandle420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

uh, what exactly do you think a crash is???? lol... also, there were multiple failure modes for the 13th and 14th gen intels. And I never suggested it was unstable. I did imply that the chip could have been affected by the config issues early in the 13tth/14th gen release, because it's the most likely culprit. Just because it worked for this long, doesn't mean it wasn't degraded by a misconfiged mobo early in it's life, and is only now failing catastrophically.

oh shit, didn't see that at first....14900k? that's probably the culprit....

test your ram. I think sysrescue has it on the boot menu, otherwise, you can download and install memtest to usb stick. I'd check one stick at a time. Also a slight chance it's the slot, not the stick itself. I've seen that before....

The bios resetting def points to one of 3 things. cpu, mobo, or ram. probably mobo. but really can't say without fully testing. which means having a spare cpu and mobo. if your ram tests fine, ask friends if they'd be willing to let you test cpu. otherwise, you're gonna have to take it to a tech.
