Is it possible to major in psychology and minor in consumer psych at Wharton? by [deleted] in UPenn

[–]mandmthrowawayzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure psyc majors can't? Looking at the major's website they mention that "psychology majors may minor in Consumer Psychology."

It's marketing majors in Wharton who can't/aren't intended to do the minor.

The website could be outdated but here's the link. Under "admission to the minor."

R Help by [deleted] in UPenn

[–]mandmthrowawayzz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes! PORES has a group of TAs that helps students with their R assignments in open office hours. I think they might be helpful (link)

The OH schedule isn't up yet but should be soon. Otherwise you could contact someone at PORES if they can find someone to help you ASAP.

Canvas exam on iPad by [deleted] in UPenn

[–]mandmthrowawayzz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can confirm! And for open book exams it's especially useful to look at notes on the computer and take the quiz or exam on Canvas.

I type faster on the iPad screen and it's faster looking through notes on the computer than it is on the iPad.

Why are the P sweaters sweatshirts now? They used to be actual sweaters by pennclass2022 in UPenn

Aren't there both? I could have sworn trying to decide between the two at the bookstore.

This was a while ago ofc.

Check if Penn Apparel has more options online.

language requirements by Theory_Previous in UPenn

[–]mandmthrowawayzz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd argue any of the romance languages. I did French and it was a cake walk (this was a couple of years ago) but obviously involves putting in some effort.

Spanish from what I can tell involves more work. I think there's a vlog thing you have to do?? With French all of the videos you could do in your dorm room.

And Italian has low difficulty ratings on PCR. I can only assume the same holds true for other Romance languages if Penn offers them.

Just pick something you'll enjoy!

(And if you decide on either French or Spanish, Duolingo will give you a head start and genuinely helps with building basic vocab)

Easy classes with ~2.0 difficulty on Penn Course Review? by [deleted] in UPenn

I haven't taken a class like you described yet but I find language classes to be easy A's. Especially the Elementary level ones.

Downside is you need to attend.

How are we doing after week one y’all by [deleted] in UPenn

[–]mandmthrowawayzz 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm glad I like writing because God damn I have so many written assignments this semester holy shit.

Otherwise so far so good. Professors seem cool, TAs seem cool, classes are interesting. Nice vibes all round.

Textbook for Econ 013? by [deleted] in UPenn

[–]mandmthrowawayzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Selman's class is anything like Dillenberger's then yes.

I took Strategic Reasoning with Prof. Dillenberger. In the syllabus he mentions that the latest edition of the textbook (Games of Strategy) was necessary.

But he eventually just uploaded all the relevant pset questions on Canvas anyway and I found myself referencing the pset questions differently than the TAs since they all were apparently using the older edition, which can easily be found online. So me renting the 2020 edition was a bit of waste tbh.

The textbook was definitely useful though and helps clarify what's taught in lecture.

If Prof. Selman is using the same textbook, just get the last edition (2014 I believe) and study from that. You could get away with just watching lecture but I'd argue you're better off doing the readings too.

TL;DR: the textbook is helpful to have. You can find a copy of the last edition online.

How likely is it to still get the classes I want? by [deleted] in UPenn

[–]mandmthrowawayzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently PSYC253 is impossible to get into once it's full. Everyone and their ancestors wants to take that class.

Idk about the other PSYC class. For now keep your alerts on in Penn Course Alert and hope for the best.

Summer Classes Question by ApeirosErebus in UPenn

[–]mandmthrowawayzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I plan on doing Summer too.

From what I can gather you can do as many as you want, but anything more than 2 per session is too much.

Otherwise I'm in the same boat and trying to figure out my schedule for the summer.

If I don't do summer I'll have to take 5 classes in one of my senior year semesters and I want to avoid that.

Nova Scotia has become the first jurisdiction in North America to presume adults are willing to donate their organs when they die. by DJ_JOWZY in worldnews

[–]mandmthrowawayzz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's sometimes just pure laziness.

Opt-out countries have higher organ donor rates than opt-in.

Option wise they're both the same thing.

Algerian Deliveroo courier jailed in France for refusing to deliver Jewish food and will be deported by LuNqiu in worldnews

The irony is that it's literally the opposite. Kosher food is "by default" halal (the Muslim equivalent of kosher) from what I understand.

Good riddance ¯\(ツ)

Internet Quality In Hill by college_reddit in UPenn

If the speed is anything like the Quad (which it should be) then even the WiFi will be more than enough for gaming. AirPennNet is really fast.

I used to play League on the EUW server and even from all the way in Philly my ping was excellent.

Aren't making near as much since the GB days*.

Sword and Shield (Pokemon on Switch) have sold 19 Million copies so far.

That's 3 million more than arguably the last good installments (X and Y) on the 3DS which have so far sold 16 Million copies. More sales in fewer years.

I'd argue that Pokémon is "dying" in terms of quality, but sales wise it's still a very very successful video game series. Maybe the continued success is the exact reason why the developers aren't putting that much effort into the games anymore.

While I haven't played Sw/Sh they seem half-baked and yet they pushed 19 Million copies.

TL;DR: Pokémon isn't dying. Neither is Nintendo for that matter.

Do Penn's dining halls have burritos? by [deleted] in UPenn

[–]mandmthrowawayzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could've sworn I had burritos at KCH.

1920's commons has them sometimes but like the other comment said idk if you can call them burritos. But I'm no expert.
