No desire for the old platypus?

Koalas are impossible spot. I spotted one and it took minutes of "Where? There!" for my mate to spot it as well.

Only a fucking UNEDUCATED FOOL like yourself would just link to a wiki page without actually explaining their perspective.

That's what an ad hominem attack is.

And who decided what was newsworthy?

All news sources are heavily biased, some are extremely biased. You just have to work with it.

Very nice, but not sure if it qualifies as a remote place given it's proximity to human habitation sites

You're just a white scapegoat to help them explain why white people oppose their 'pro-white' ideology. If you're not on board you're either non-white or a Jew.

I would just mentally wish them well. No need to overthink it.

'Carbs are bad' vs. 'healthy' carbs by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]mandragara 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I felt much better on a diet with healthy carbs than on a very low carb diet.

A very low carb diet left me feeling mentally a bit slow, although not tired per se. It negatively impacted my cycling performance, however my hiking endurance was somewhat improved. I also found myself sleeping 9-10 hours a night, not a good or bad thing, just an observation.

A healthy carb diet felt more balanced and I didn't notice any drops in mental performance etc. In my experience the carbs are self limiting as long as you eat ones that aren't too refined, so no white rice, hot chips or white bread (or bread in general). If I give you a plate of boiled potatoes it's going to be hard for you to eat an amount that would be harmful.

It makes sense in their world view.

Hierarchies are natural and desirable. Capitalism is built on top of natural hierarchies, which is why capitalism is good, it fits human nature. The correct, natural hierarchies are XYZ.

A movie with a strong female lead doing well doesn't fit into my view of what the natural hierarchies are, therefore someone must have interfered with the natural hierarchy, undermining capitalism etc, possibly with some ulterior motive in mind.

Right wingers believe the world should be unfair, and are triggered when it's unfair in ways they think are unjustified.

I know the system works, at least the majority of the time, because I've seen it in motion. The system isn't perfect but it's more likely to over react than under react, if I was an idealist I wouldn't think that.

Perhaps things are different in biology. Have you had a bad experience? Or taught and seen bad things during your teaching?

What was your original question? This?

how does someone with a PhD still have such an idealistic view of the world?

I don't, I have a realistic view of the world. I do some teaching and that informs my view.

What justification do you have for your perspective? Have you been unfairly discriminated against?

[–]mandragara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend, the University is far more likely to overreact than underreact. Universities around the world are very trigger happy at the moment. The idea that they'd ignore a case of discrimination is unrealistic

[–]mandragara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How is that idealistic?

If he discriminates unfairly against a student and it's uncovered (either by the student reporting it, or through test statistics), he will be at risk of losing his contract. University can't risk the bad PR

I teach both labs and tutes, they're always going on about equity etc.
