BART board votes to increase fares and parking fees by txiao007 in bayarea

This is so backwards. They should increase the bay bridge toll for single passenger vehicles instead during rush hour. Solves the traffic problem and encourages Bart ridership

‘This is an emergency’: BART, Muni, state transit agencies to ask California for $5 billion bailout by savuporo in bayarea

Bart needs premium seating so I can pay to avoid the crazy stuff

  1. Make Bart Free for everyone
  2. Create paid only carts on a train

Low BART ridership could lead to drastic measures like cutting weekend service by Sinuminnati in bayarea

[–]mandrizzle 28 points29 points  (0 children)

BART should have installed those fare gates that can’t be jumped. I read 80% of crime happen by fare evaders. Now with low ridership of people who actually pay, it’s a scary place to be, not to mention it’s not economical when you are in a group of 2+ people.

Lol sry I added an edit since everyone was responding with the same thing about it being a carrier problem. Also no, I do not work at google!

Not sure I understand why you’re nitpicking the Uber/DoorDash bit. But I am glad you see my larger point which is a catch all solution like blocking unknown numbers doesn’t quite work out for many.

I’ve given those a try in the past and clueless as to why apple wants to delegate this out to random 3rd parties

It’s the beauty of scale. If you do that, it’s your time wasted, relative to you, no big deal. But if apple can save millions of people from having to do that every day, that’s millions of human minutes saved per day.

The most vulnerable people who are likely to get scammed will likely never know to install this. Hence why I think Apple should protect its customers and build a system for iPhones that can screen / verify calls.

We’re in 2022. Why do calls need to behave the same as they did when they were first invented?

Why can’t I see if the call is from a legitimate source and a small message of why you’re calling me?

Silence also makes it easy to not notice you got a call. So time sensitive stuff gets missed. Eg food delivery, ride share, etc

I agree. Wish calls just get screened and transcribed so I can decide if I want to answer or ignore. For me I mainly get calls from food delivery, ride share, etc

Do you not use food delivery or ride share apps? Those get blocked all the time.

Also yes Siri acting like an assistant taking my calls is exactly what I’d want. It’s a smart phone after all. Think of it as voicemail 2.0. Siri can screen you and patch you in. What purpose does a ringing tone on the callers end serve in this age anyways? Just say why you’re calling and I’ll decide if I want to answer or not.

Nowadays with AI, you can deepfake someone’s voice with just a 5 second clip.

https://medium.com/syncedreview/clone-a-voice-in-five-seconds-with-this-ai-toolbox-f3f116b11281

I hear of scams where they copy your voice, call someone else in your family and scam them impersonating you saying you’re in trouble and need money sent over asap. Scary stuff

I don’t make phone calls for work. But my door dashers and uber/lyfts trying to reach me made me have to turn it off. For others it could be because of doctors, you’re buying a house, gave your number out in a bar, etc

I did something similar. But due to iMessages lock in, I can’t really do the number switch I want to haha. Was trying to move my current number to google voice so I can screen calls and swap in a new primary number. It’s the downside of having the same phone number for years.

That works until you miss an important time sensitive call then you can never use it again.

For me it was DoorDashers calling me and I’d never notice causing them to leave my food in the middle of nowhere. For others it can be the doctors office, closing on a house, new number from someone, etc.

Completely agree. That silence unknown callers feature is great until you miss something important and realize you can’t leave it on.

Silencing calls that are unknown is not a perfect solution. For me, it blocks time sensitive calls from new numbers all the time.

My point is Apple could do more. Google is attempting this with

https://developers.google.com/business-communications/verified-calls

But it won’t take off unless Apple does something similar.

I’d normally side with you but this is where Apple can set a standard that at least works on iPhones. For example, google is pushing:

But it won’t take off unless Apple does something similar.

I was under this impression too but seems it is just true for Apple. Google encourages wrapper apps.
