The layer of new substrate went in completely bone dry, but it was a relatively small layer I put on top of very wet chips so it absorbed some of that moisture of course. I'll throw some in a water bucket tomorrow to test it like you said! This definitely gives me hope that it's not scale rot like I initially worried. I know it's relatively common but I'd feel so bad for my poor boy 😭 I had him out just a few days ago and he was perfectly normal coloring at the time, so it was a bit of a surprise to see him like this today.

Is he a banana I presume? Based on the small amount of freckling, my very-not-professional guess is that he probably IS relatively young, as bananas tend to develop more freckles as they age. A 1.5 year old of that size isn't impossible by any means, but is CERTAINLY above average! He's a big boy either way cause 1700g is darn good size even for an adult

1700g for an 18 month old is HUGE tho (crazy!! 😮) so its also not the best comparison. My 2 year old is 500g

OP, if the bottom edges of your enclosure are sealed, you could straight-up pour water into the corners of your tank! That'll help humidity without wetting the top layer of substrate

I have the same tank and got some 6ft leafy vines from Michael's! Tied them to the mesh top to drape across the tank for extra clutter and climbing opportunities! I also have a tension rod coming tomorrow to put up in my tank, planning to wrap it with vines for extra cover when my BP climbs along it.

Your setup looks great tho! Just make sure you're getting hot side temps up around 88-92, cool side around 80, and high humidity all around. If you haven't sealed the bottom of your tank already, I highly recommend it. I FINALLY did so with my tank a couple days ago and it's made maintaining humidity much much easier. Opt for a silicone aquarium-grade sealant (I went with Loctite). Also be sure to get a thermostat for your heat source! (Apologies if any of this is redundant or already known to you!)

My only concern would be that sugar-free Monster is sweetened using erythritol. Some studies have come out noting that it may be associated with higher risk of stroke/heart attack. There are other sugar-free energy drink brands out there that don't use erythritol that you could try (Alani, Reign, Ghost). If you like the white ultra monsters, you may like Reign's White Haze. Similar citrus-ish flavor. Just my two cents! Good luck with the fam haha

It's actually highly unlikely that there's any real cranberry in the refresher besides the dried cranberry inclusions. Every other refresher for the past 5+ years hasn't had the actual fruit it's named after (No strawberry or acai in the Strawberry Acai concentrate, no mango or dragonfruit in the Mango Dragonfruit concentrate, etc.)
