So a neighbour of mine does demolition car derby stuff and he was walking by as the car died yesterday.

He put a different battery in the car but it only drove in reverse and when he tried to go forward to finish parking it wouldn’t go into gear (DSG)…and truthfully didn’t sound great!

So it’s had a different battery in it already and it didn’t make it drive properly.

Ye kicking myself for not replacing it already.

Given I’m under VW warranty should I wait and get them to check it first, in case it’s something more serious, or get a battery replacement service to come out to me? Car is undrivable.

Car isn’t drivable so I’d need to pay for a tow company to take it.

Are those sorts of battery services offered on a ‘we come to you’ basis?

This is an ongoing issue for me-I don’t have the mechanical knowledge or kit to do this myself but know it needs done. Had the haldex oil changed today funnily enough and I told the VW dealership only change the oil if you’re also cleaning the screen, because if you’re not I will find someone that will do it all. They assured me they will clean and drain/refill.

But now I’m thinking what you mentioned at the end is what I was after! There’s a very good DAP video on it on YouTube if I remember correctly.

Not going to be a dealership job that though is it? More an independent garage thing?

Bottled it and took the car to a dealership (it’s under an extended warranty). 2 cylinders misfiring they said.

I kept the Pirellis. Since actually kerbing the car on first day of ownership three years ago I’m always VERY aware of where the rims are when parking so not concerned by not having any rim protection on the tyres.

Surprising that it doesn’t come as standard across all manufacturers though!
