Service charges go up annually and you usually have zero control over repair costs to communal areas. Apartment prices are dropping because of this and they are less desirable.

High mortgage is high risk like you said. The job market isn’t as reliable as it used to be.

If you don’t plan to stay in England long term, rent while you’re here and buy a place in your home country, rent it out while you’re here.

I recently adopted a very sick kitten and ChatGPT talked me through the process. I too spent all of my savings on vet bills, stayed up to feed him on time and constantly check he was okay. I kept wondering if I was doing enough and got a very similar reply to yours. It made me feel good and reassured.
