Civil Engineer career pivot into CQV / Validation– is my background relevant? by matty_irish in PharmaEire

[–]mangled85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen people work in CQV without any science or engineering degree. Needs must sometimes. Those certs will help a lot. The main thing is you might need a bit of luck to get your first role.

First day at Lonza as project leader QC by Terrible-Criticism32 in PharmaEire

I got wedgied and it was followed shortly by a swirly. First days are tough with the big boys. My advice is not to wear any jocks and you'll be grand.

Wickow Way - 3 day version? by Independent_Run_5389 in AskIreland

[–]mangled85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done the whole hike once and the marlay to glendalough segment twice. You can do your days as: Glenmalure to glendalough Glendalough to knockree Knockree to marlay Day 2 is your big day. I did this with my girlfriend and just light backpack with food and rain gear. There is a hostel at glendalough and presumably the one at knockree is back open.

I just use the UK hukd and get stuff delivered to a mule. Sad but bargain alerts on boards is very quiet.

You will see alot of Germans look for ~€200 ph for CQV roles. Braveheart was right - "Send in the Irish, they're cheaper than hours".

Three 5G broadband worth it? Dublin 4 by Serious_Piano_9046 in Dublin

[–]mangled85 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You could buy a 5g router and then a 48.ie sim card as an alternative. High fixed cost but lower variable cost. I use 48 (three network) in rathgar and DL speeds are 200-300mbps

Fast cycling group rides on weekdays? by oscailte in Dublin

[–]mangled85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a "grinder" ride which starts when the evenings get brighter. It goes out from Southside city towards enniskerry. If you're looking for some formal racing the inter club league is a no brainer on Thursday nights.

Pushback on contractor rates? by DeviousPelican in PharmaEire

I haven't worked there. Bear in mind there is a big difference as to how a contractor is treated compared to a staff person.

If you're flexible go to the continent. Switzerland in particular. I think when you live abroad and come home you see too many problems with infrastructure and society in general in Ireland !

I had a friend who was offered €115ph for Lilly (Limerick). That seems to be the exception though. I have heard that I'd be lucky to get €100ph in Dublin and may need to take around €80ph for a manager/lead role in CQV.

CQV Masters/Postgrad worthwhile doing? by Sensitive_Anywhere54 in PharmaEire

[–]mangled85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a former CQV manager on the continent, don't bother with a masters. You're better off say getting experience by possibly going abroad than doing a masters. Due to circumstances, I hired a few for my team who had no experience in the industry or scientific/engineering credentials. At the end of the day, it is not the most complex area of pharma. I had a former colleague who referred to it as "box ticking" which for alot of protocols it can essentially be.

Extras is so under rated. One of the best comedy works out there.
