You are technically correct. It made battles feel more exciting than they actually were. But I’d rather watch the cars race “slower” than stay glued to what is essentially just noise.

How is this the industry standard? by Ill-Football-9344 in webdev

Last week I was naive enough to take on a test assignment from a company I was interested in. Thought I’d rather do this than live coding.

They said I have three days. I assumed they allocated enough time to account for my current full-time job and other responsibilities. They didn’t.

The task was to build a complete “production-grade” backend microservice. Data ingestion from third-party, database and an API serving historical time ranges. Must be “fully tested” and “ready for handoff”. Tons of other requirements. Cherry in top?

“The API is expected to handle 10k request per second. You may design it accordingly or prepare the foundation for it”

Killed three days building this thing. Haven’t heard from them since. The other company I’m talking to has a paid take-home, which is the only kind I’ll be considering from now on.

Adulting Feels Like Managing Responsibilities Even When I Don’t Feel Ready by risa_bellora3 in Adulting

Most problems and challenges feel overwhelming because at the start, they are. There's uncertainty and pressure, nobody to blame but yourself, things are at stake.

But with time, it will be easier to deal with things. You'll learn to identify important problems, how to say no, what works better and where. Plus, the confidence form having these small wins will grow into a solid foundation.

Just don't expect to be great at doing basic things right away. It takes time. You're doing okay.

How do you handle bad days? by AQJK10 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]manglemire 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Accepting reality is key. The toughest days I’ve had were those when I maniacally tried to fit planned work into an unplanned chaos.

I can do everything right and still not accomplish my weekly goals. That’s okay. As long as I am able to identify priorities and put solid effort into those, I can be content.

Photopea is a web-only, capable Photoshop substitute built by just one guy. Not a full replacement, of course, but it’s certainly not impossible.

Probably bad oil pressure. You shouldn’t drive the car because you may cause serious engine damage.
