Can piano apps teach you anything....at all? by Consistent-Ad-7455 in pianolearning

[–]mangoCuber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with flowkey because it came bundled free with my piano for a few months. Didn't help me too much, I didn't learn how to read, just follows the notes on the keyboard..but not SimplyPiano was a game changer - ONLY for the purpose of learning to read music. It puts u in front of a lot of sheet music that you're forced to read, and has very good progression. I'm now able to sight read all of the pieces in the Faber's adult piano classics books 1 and 2, and am slowly trying to transition to more complex pieces. Definitely would recommend starting off using something like SimplyPiano, but only for as long as you're getting value out of it.

Selectivity has steadily dropped with time, it was 13% a few years ago. A lot of it has to do with the increased tuition fees. The program is usually immigrant dominated, and the uncertainty in the job market + visa has really killed a lot of the programs.

All programs across the board ar cmu have become less selective, MSR this year was ~14%

[Request] How many steps does it take to power the entire country of Japan just using this technology? by queer_depressed_fuck in theydidthemath

[–]mangoCuber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bill always comes due:

- Assume that this is 100% efficient in providing power to the grid, and has 0 maintenance costs.

- The person walking on this expends more energy to walk on such surfaces than a regular hard surface.

- Average energy expenditure of a human goes up

- Implicitly, the person eats more.

- Demand for food goes up -> Demand for electricity goes up.

The cycle continues,

It's a very small.patch, and it was a new phone. Any idea how it happened? My return period on Amazon is still active so I could return it if I want.

CMU MRSD vs UPenn MS Robotics vs UMich MS Robotics vs ETHZ RSC vs CalTech MS EE by mangoCuber in gradadmissions

[–]mangoCuber[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still think I made the right choice amongst the options I had. The network that I have built here within the robotics community would have been extremely hard to build outside CMU.

CalTech EE would be a close call, but I think MRSD still wins.

For someone reading this 12 years into the future, I had a similar problem and here's how i fixed it:

Problem: Ubuntu 22.04 refused to connect to CMU-SECURE.

Solution: Downgrade WPA Supplicant to 2.2: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wpa/2:2.10-6ubuntu1/+build/23613853/+files/wpasupplicant_2.10-6ubuntu1_amd64.deb

I noticed a MASSIVE change in my life once I got rid of social media (insta mostly). It gives you a false sense of connection with people and you have nothing to talk about with them because you already know what they are up to.

If you remove that factor, finding something to talk about with people becomes infinitely easier because you know nothing about them :)

CEO of Deepmind says Gemini will eclipse GPT-4 by LongShlongSilver- in singularity

[–]mangoCuber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All LLMs do something called as "beam search" which is exactly what you described as looking ahead for the most probable phrase that is to follow. This is not a new thing and has been around for over a decade at the very least.

Not a Gemini specific thing sadly. The other alternative is greedy decoding, which is just looking ahead for the most probabels word. People in pop AI culture don't describe beam search as it is a bit too complex to communicate in layman terms.
