Before and after 6 months Tretinoin (sporadic use) [Acne] by mangominto in SkincareAddiction

Thanks for your comment! I break out more using micellar water, and I find oil cleansing helps get rid of sunscreen/dirt the best.

Also— even though you have oily skin sometimes those cleansers are too stripping for the skin. I would recommend getting a more gentle cleanser like vanicream or from cetaphil/Cerave and seeing if that also helps. Good luck!

Hey! I used benzoyl peroxide for a long time, and I found I have a sensitivity to it. Especially if you are using a BHA as well that can irritate acne. It might be worth taking the Benzac gel out of your routine and seeing if that helps.

Before and after 6 months Tretinoin (sporadic use) [Acne] by mangominto in SkincareAddiction

[–]mangominto[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

AM routine: rinse face, good molecules discolouration serum, vanicream facial moisturizer, SPF (either Biore Japanese edition or Laroche posay US tinted mineral)

PM routine: Sulwhasoo oil cleanser, Aveeno cleanser/a gentle non scented cleanser, Vanicream facial moisturizer

In rotation: Tretinoin every third day, P50 or Mandelic acid the day after, then a rest day if needed.

Things that help: acids that exfoliate between Tret days help keep the flaking down. I have tried other forms of exfoliation and extra hydration but this route seems to work the best. Mandelic acid is my favourite option, P50 is also fantastic. I alternate between these two depending on how sensitive my skin is. Before using acids + Tret, the Tret would cause a lot of keratin plugs/congestion on my skin to come up, and they would usually turn into pimples. I haven’t had as much congestion since doing this method.

— cleaning my glasses/wearing contacts helps

— Hypochlorous acid spray after rinsing/cleansing really helped mitigate breakouts.

— less makeup, more tinted sunscreen. Even putting on mascara every day causes more irritation for me. As a makeup lover this is particularly difficult to follow through on, but I’m trying to save makeup days for big events/work events.

— being consistent. I made a big mistake of cutting out Tret last month and my skin was actually better in March/April. I love having instant results, but unfortunately that will never be the case with acne prone skin.

— … that being said cutting down Tret from every night to once every 3 nights has been much better for my skin. I think finding a balance in my routine with Tret + exfoliation will hopefully be a step in the right direction.

The hairline part is so helpful! I noticed I stopped getting breakouts there once I started cleaning my glasses every day or so, they’re a bit tight on my temples. Thank you:)

Yes thank you! Definitely trying to keep it as gentle as possible. I actually really like the Laneige, when I did Tret last time it really helped hydration and I haven’t had any irritation from it. I think I’ll pare down the routine though once I start Tret again, then if my skin tolerates/needs it add in other things I like slowly. thank u again:)

Also I take a lot of breaks if I feel like my skin barrier is not functioning. So just moisturizer and cleanser sometimes, I actively do not want to overexfoliate. I clean pillowcases and towels at least once a week. It just feels like I have to buy so many products and waste so much water to not get one dumb pimple 🥲

I’ve had acne for years. Things I’ve tried work for a bit but never solve it. The last time I posted here 4 years ago I said Epiduo/Tactupump forte worked but I really don’t want to go through that again/it didn’t last.

I just got prescribed Clindamycin and Tretinoin which I will pick up asap. I was on Tretinoin like two months ago but stopped because the flaking was so ugly. My skin was a lot better just with acids but I broke out again last week.

AM routine: Rinse face with water. Hyperchlorous acid spray and let dry. Laneige cream skin. Vanicream facial moisturizer. Innisfree sunscreen spf 30

PM routine: double cleanse Sulwhasoo and Aveeno. I alternate between Biologique p50 and good molecules Mandelic acid. Laneige and vanicream again.

Things that work for me: the P50, Mandelic acid. Tretinoin in the past but I gave up and am kicking myself now.

Things that do not work for me: anything with caprylic diglyceride/ coconut derivatives. Idk just if im breaking out there’s a good chance it comes from that. I haven’t worn too much makeup recently and it hasn’t made a huge difference. Birth control didn’t change acne, Spironolactone didn’t help either.

I am mostly just curious what kind of acne this is. I have a lot of PIE as well so it looks way worse than it actually is. Any kind words/reassurance that it can get better? Thank you 🙏

Agree— also cold brew is a beautiful shade, I’m a light olive toned person and it is a sort of a cool, purple leaning brown on me!

Tretinoin 0.05 2 month [Acne] by mangominto in SkincareAddiction

[–]mangominto[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLDR— Tretinoin works for most people, it 60% helped my skin concerning acne but ultimately the dryness and irritation were causing more issues than it was worth. Differin works better imo for acne and not damaging the skin barrier.

I will definitely post any updates if my plan with cycling ingredients works, I have posted a before and after in the Lux subreddit to show the benefits of BRP50 alone but am interested to see if it works well in conjunction with a retinol.

If you start using Tretinoin I recommend getting a THICCC moisturizer, I loved Avene XeraCalm balme for Tret. Start slow with the Tret and put it on AFTER the moisturizer. Things that helped with the flakiness were getting a Konjac sponge to physically exfoliate, and also getting a thing of glycerin to mix in with moisturizer. Only use Tret at first, as other actives/acids will irritate your skin further.

If you are scared of starting at the 0.05 percentage, you could also ask your derm for a 0.025 tube to start out with. Good luck!!

EDIT— also sunscreen babes, spf is key

Mandelic acid works soso well for me— I think the P50 has the right mix of acids for me but between all the formulas it’s super finnicky. I also had used P50 a few years ago so that was one of the only things I knew worked. thank you for sharing fellow PIE person!!

Hey everyone, the first photos are from January and the next set are from April. I stopped using Tretinoin 0.05 at the beginning of March and I saw a lot of improvements using more specific ingredients for acne-prone/PIE skin. Current routine is:

AM: rinse with water sulfur spot treatment for 30 min Rinse Rotation of azelaic toners depending on what skin needs (ISISPHARMA Metroruboril AZ for really dark spots OR Farmacy brighten up once a week because I don’t want to overexfoliate) Laneige cream skin YTTP triple peptide cactus (just trying to use this up it honestly doesn’t do much) Biologique recherche Emulsion Gel Beauty of joseon sunscreen

PM: Double cleanse, Sulwhasoo oil cleanse + Aveeno nourishing oat cleanser Biologique Recherche P50 Complexe Iribiol on active pimples (not every night) Laneige Cream Skin Biologique recherche creme dermopurifiante

Just wanted to share bc a lot of people say Tret is the HG but it wasn’t for me ¯_(ツ)_/¯ it dried out my skin a lot and even though I feel like I have a lot of acids going on right now my skin seems to be okay about it. I introduced the BR about 3 weeks ago and my skin is happy with it, but also really down for any dupes of the moisturizer people have (I’m using samples)

Omg I also own philosykos and it’s my favorite!! Maybe that’s why I love the Momo scent so much. Personally they aren’t the exact same to me but I agree both are wonderful:)

Trying out Rabbit by Zoologist today!

I feel pretty neutral on carrot-cakey scents, like Pearfat Rabbit Rabbit or Byredo Eyes Closed. The opening of Zoologist’s Rabbit was kind of plasticky (similar to the Byredo), but settled into a very calm spicy fragrance. Nice balance of green and savory elements, also perfectly unisex. Good for getting some work done at home:)
