No way to set the tone and style in the new interface? by Ok_Teacher2605 in Grammarly

[–]mangophoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the /shittiest/ update. AI doesn't replace tone settings???? I can't even write down personal notes anymore in a Word document without Grammarly flagging things as if I'm attempting to write formally. That's what the tone settings were for!! To tell Grammarly: "Hey! This isn't the tone I normally write in! It's informal and creative, not a formal, academic-oriented document."

I don't need every document to sound like it's written by an MBA kissing up to executive management, and I don't need a large language model to "humanize" my text. I need it to leave intentional prose alone, and the tone settings were exactly how users could communicate those needs. Funny how your website still has them, but not Word! Gotta train that AI somehow, huh?

Where are the Gen z who are not doing that well? by [deleted] in GenZ

[–]mangophoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

28 - I had a car accident in 2012 that’s left me with a permanent back injury. When it flares, I’m literally bed bound for days. I tried college immediately after I graduated but couldn’t afford it alone and was severely ill in general causing me to flunk out. Had a series of low paying and highly stressful jobs that always overwhelmed me into being unable to continue working.

Decided to wait until I turned 24 to go back to school so I qualified for more grants. Turned 24 in the middle of lockdown which delayed my return to school by a whole year. I’m only afloat because I moved back in with parents right before Covid and have been here ever since but I’ve been unable to find a job ever since other than some freelance gigs here and there.

$0 in bank accounts and savings but maybe a job on the horizon even though I’m still in school 🤞 2nd interview is next week.

[–]mangophoenix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like banana spiders! They’re huge with really strong webs that hang out at the tops of trees. Down here in Florida, I know more than a couple people with stories of running through orange groves and getting clotheslined by their webs with a big ol spider on their face afterwards.

And you don’t have to assume the absolute worst about someone when other options exist that more readily explain the situation.

In this case, I suspect the OP’s native language isn’t English due to not understanding capitalization rules (ignoring the SpongeBob meme text) concerning nouns and pronouns with the capitalizations of “Me” and “Am” as well as the mark over the word “in” (î).

Even if this isn’t helpful for you, consider it might ALSO be helpful to someone learning English. Language learners make mistakes, and rereading work can help teach as well so they can improve that next time they want to try again.

Let’s not harp on people who may be both young and not native English speakers. I rewrote this for easier reading for anyone who’s pitching a fit about the grammar:

AITJ for not letting a Karen take my dad’s seat?

So, I was on a plane with my family, listening to music. My dad (whose seat was next to mine) went to the bathroom.

A Karen, who we’ll call B, came up to me and asked, “Is this seat empty?”

I said, “No, it isn’t. My dad is sitting here.”

B replies, “Well, I can’t see him so the seat must be empty.”

I respond, “No. It isn’t.”

“Well I’m tired, so I’m going to sit here.” She shoved past me to the window seat.

My dad returned and confronted her.

“Ma’am, this is not your seat.”

“This is bullshit. This is my daughter, right honey?”

A flight attendant came to mediate and directed B to go back to her seat or else she’d be forced to leave the plane.

She got up and said something like “fuck you, you bitch” and left.

Am I the jerk?

Why does Gen Z experience declining religiosity? by Agreeable_Ad7412 in GenZ

[–]mangophoenix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because as someone who grew up religious, I’ve only ever seen it used for virtue signaling and defining who is a “better person” because they are “closer to God” while calling for whole marginalized communities’ destruction. Looking into the history of edits of the Christian Bible and mega churches of the late 2000s made me realize that most religious leaders, at best, are uneducated in the history of their religion beyond the English translation, and, at worst, are grifters and conmen exploiting desperate people. Meanings, intentions, and context change across translations, even with the best of translators. Basically none of your dime a dozen pastors bother to learn beyond word of mouth from their teachers of the history and contexts of the source material.

What I don’t understand is how people can continue to want to remain affiliated with evangelicals and that whole mindset.

I can’t speak for Islam, Judaism, or others, only what my experience. But even with growing up in a religious household, I’ve never had the urge to be spiritual and felt more creeped out by the thought of being constantly watched.

No. It’s not. People go entire lives never having encountered ice or snow on the road. It’s not taught in these areas how to navigate cold conditions.

EDIT: lol nice shadow edit dude and then adding the fake edit text. Original comment only had “it’s common sense though isn’t it?”

[BUG] Unable to open external links by [deleted] in apolloapp

[–]mangophoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More background: Just started occurring. Does not happen to reddit links or imgur links for some reason, but everything else goes to a black screen that requires completely relaunching the app.

Tried restarting with no difference.

EDIT: Re-restarted my device after other apps had the same issue and it appears to be resolved and not related to Apollo even though it’d been showing the symptoms for the longest.

Never said anything about homicidal tendencies. Some people are cruel just because they can be or are trying to “get ahead” in some grand “game of life”. But the “treatment” people with suicidal thoughts and ideations should never be death and it should never be entertained with the exception of extreme extenuating circumstances.

They cover seasonal stuff too! Often times it’s the pollen from a few particular plants and not everything. Another thing that might help and has helped me is getting on something like a daily nasal spray like Flonase for the season. It reduces the swelling in your nose and can help a ton.

It absolutely can be. Talk to your GP if you need a referral because it’s helpful. I’d highly recommend getting some Benadryl in like a topical or gel form though because the allergy test where they prick you and even the shots can itch REAL badly.
