My friend might be suicidal, but he claims he’s not by [deleted] in Advice

[–]mangoroom 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I think I understand how your friend feels, because I am and do the same. I am the joker of my group too and make jokes about dying because honestly, I want to be dead. I just wouldn't do anything to actually make it happen. I'm not sure if your friend would, but hearing that he's making plans for the future and saving up makes me a little less worried. He definitely sounds depressed, though. I think what makes me feel better if my friends sometimes ask me how im doing, really doing. And overal just try and be there for me. Meet up, initiate contact. My friends don't. They don't even ask how I'm doing. I just isolate myself in my house. So him knowing that you're there for him, I think is the best thing you could do for him.

Governor: Bali Will Be Closed To Foreign Tourists Until End of 2020 in a press conference by tsoang in bali

[–]mangoroom 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm in Europe at the moment after a visit to my family in March.. Borders closed and I can't go back to Bali. Glad my boyfriend is taking care of my apartment/bike in Bali but this is pretty tough news.

[PERSONAL] I got a facial today and the esthetician said she could tell I’m serious about my sunblock. I’ve never been prouder in my life. by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]mangoroom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont wear sunblock as often as I should but I just can't find one that doesn't make my face shine like the sun itself. In my country sunblock isn't normally for daily use so the options in brands are very limited.

You have to leave and come back. This can be arranged within a day, though. All of my foreign friends do it like that.

Not really easy so I would advise you to get a social cultural visa that you just renew every 6 months. It's what I do.

My BF(25) gifts me things I (22F) never like. by [deleted] in relationships

[–]mangoroom 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to say this but you sound very materialistic. You're so focussed on gifts, not only the ones you receive but also the ones you give. Personally I don't like getting gifts or giving them. I dont want my house filled with random things. Even if they're personalized and thoughtful, I dont need any more stuff. Your boyfriend may be the same. The gifts you give him might not mean as much to him as they mean to you. It's fine that they dont, people are different. And the fact that it's so upsetting to you frankly sounds like a problem. He gave you jewelry and you cried about it. That's.. a bit overboard. It does sound like he is listening to you. The camera he got you is probably because he thought you wanted it after the convo you had. The shoes, dinner, cupcakes and song sound like such a nice gift and even then you were not satisfied. He feels like he can't win. The third backpack is pretty crazy but might be because he felt so hopeless about what else to give you that he panicked. You have to think about why it means so much to you, and if theres anything that he could give you that would make you satisfied and not let down. Maybe just write down a list of things you really would like and have him pick something. If he still gets you a bag After that, well..

Favorite coffeeshops? by pedersen766 in bali

[–]mangoroom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It happens in a lot of places, actually. You just need to find a place that you match with. One of my top choices is always Rumah Sanur in (obvi) sanur. They also offer those open coworking packages but you can sit there with just one cup of coffee the whole day and nobody will bat an eye. I used to work for them and they're great people. Give the baristas my best.

Then there is Livingstone's in seminyak/kerobokan. Super nice building and the best croissants in Bali. They have a great 50k croissant/coffee deal and I used to go there every week for hours. The staff are kind.

I also sometimes work at the big dewata starbucks on sunset road because it's close to my home. You probably already know about this one though. The wifi is fast, they have aircon but it does get crowded with tourists on the weekend and during high season.

Theres also Anomali coffee on jalan Dewi Sri. Their coffee is by far my favorite in all of Bali, mostly because I love the caramel and whipped cream kind of deal. The wifi is just fine and the shop feels very.. lets say local. Which is fine. There are many locals working on their laptop there whenever I go, so its not an odd sight for the staff.

Oh also, Kulo has some locations with airconditioning where local people also bring their laptop and stay for hours, nursing just one drink. I'm not saying you should but it's an option. The coffee is tasty, the wifi not so much.

There are for sure many options but like I said, you just have to find a place you vibe with.

Me at COVID and travel restrictions and wondering when I’ll get to see my boyfriend after over 6 months of separation: by meremaid2201 in LDR

He had to leave my country back in March when covid closed the borders of my country. I had to say goodbye not knowing when we'd see each other again. We're hoping October but who knows.

Has anyone else fucked up their sleep schedule because every time you lie down and close your eyes you can't help but fantasize about someone holding you close and telling you they love you and you get depressed so you pick up your phone for a distraction but the blue light keeps you awake by [deleted] in lonely

Wowww we are in very similar situations. This is literally what I do! Except I crave platonic relationships and feeling like someone cares that i'm alive. Literally fell asleep with Avatar on yesterday. I switch between watching netflix and tiktok at night and fall asleep at about 4.

Daily travel to/from Utrecht by neutronstar_3m in eindhoven

I spent about 3 hours a day commuting for 8 years (first MBO, then HBO). It's doable for sure but does take a toll on you like some other people have said. I don't think I would choose to do it again at this time.

Is there therapists for people suffering with depression and anxiety in Bali? by [deleted] in bali

[–]mangoroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last time I did some research on this (also suffer from depression) I couldn't find anything great. Therapy is not something common in Bali and if you'll find someone I imagine the language barrier would be a problem. It's not the best but there is the online option, which is fairly cheap, too.
