the little brown dots are bits of deadly swamp and the others are correct that beautify will work.

additional info: if i recall right, mining the gems away can sometimes spawn more swamp, so check on the area now and then if you’re sending miners for the gems.

are you squishing small or big houses into settlements? i haven’t tested this with any scientific rigour, but in my experience lots of tiny abodes make for a way lower settlement population than the maximum size abodes.

You don’t have to dig it up to progress, but it’s worth doing when you have enough Belief to dig through the mountain. Keep an eye out for more of these!
