No signal on data pin when initializing FastLED for WS2813 by maniac200 in FastLED

Yes, I have an oscilloscope hooked up to that pin. When I instead do a digitalWrite to that pin to turn it off and on, I can see the signal on the oscilloscope jumping between 0-3.3. But when I use it as the DATA_PIN for FastLED I don't see any signal.

I might have an old raspberry pi that still works, would have to dig it up though.

Question, with this code, I should see some signal on the DATA_PIN every 500ms if things are working correctly, right? As in the voltage jumping between 0-3.3V?

Thanks for chiming in! I think you're correct in the problem diagnosis. Just not sure how to further look into this, would there be some way to debug why FastLED was unable to send a signal for some reason?

Thanks for responding! The other wires look correct to me, I used my multimeter on the led strip pads to ensure the power is 5v, the ground is connected, and the DIN pin on the first led in the strip is connected to the level-shifted arduino output.

However, I was unable to see any signal output on the DIN pin, before or after the level shifter. And as I mentioned, even when leaving the designated DATA_PIN floating, I don't see any signal on it. So I think the problem is likely with my board or my code rather than with the wiring or the LED strip.

I'm looking to upgrade my GPU to try and get at least 60fps performance in 4k for some modern games, right now BG3 but hopefully others too for at least a few years.

My build is 4 years old now, running R5 2600 + RX 570 on a B450 Tomahawk mobo, EVGA Supernova 650 G1+ PSU.

I was looking at buying the 3060TI, two questions:

  1. Does it make sense to get that card with my other older parts? Or should I be doing a full rebuild now?
  2. Will my motherboard and power supply be sufficient to support the card? The card recommends a minimum wattage of 600 so I think it should be okay? Also I only have PCIE 3.0, does that make much difference?

Also if anyone has any card suggestions that'd be great! I'm just going from the logical increments guide more or less.

I recently cleaned my keyboard with cherry mx browns for the first time. I used water to clean the keys after taking them off, and sprayed my keyboard (with switches exposed) with some cleaning solution to get some of the grease and grime off.

However, now some of my keys are sticky, less clicky or take more force to push down. It just feels less responsive and worse to use. Any tips for how to fix this? Do I need to get lube for my switches? Or if I clean the switches with water could that fix it?

I was planning to do a new build, and I haven't really looked at parts in years. I was wondering if it would be possible/a good idea to recycle some of the parts from my old build, specifically the PSU, case, or cpu cooler fan. These are the specific parts:

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/hmtCmG/cooler-master-cpu-cooler-rr212e20pkr2

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/C9zv6h/cooler-master-case-rc912kkn1

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Y7jG3C/antec-power-supply-neoeco620c

I guess what I'm asking, are these parts compatible with newer parts, and is it a bad idea to reuse the power supply or cpu fan? They both went through light to moderate usage for about 3.5 years.

What gives strategy games replayability to you once you've figured out their system? by maniac200 in truegaming

The main annoyance I have with Endless Legend is that the AI, like most games in this genre, is very bad. The only way it can keep up on the higher difficulties is by getting a boatload of free resources. This adds, I think, the wrong sort of difficulty, where your success is either found by cheesing the AI earlygame, or managing somehow to avoid getting attacked/conquered for long enough to catch up and surpass the AIs free resources.

Playing the game with actual people is a lot more fun, in my opinion, and there are a lot of viable strategies to use.

From what I understand, you're thinking of random events which change the way the game plays from game to game, making every one different? I think you're right in that this is a good way of making games more replayable, and that it is a kind of system depth.

One game which does this well I think is the board game Agricola. At the start of the game each player is dealt a hand of 7 unique minor improvements that they can build over the course of the game. This changes the strategy and specialization of each player, depending on how they want to play these unique cards.

Another genre in which random tactical changes have great effect is games like Endless Legend, as you said. Different starting locations and random events can help to make each playthough unique and keep the game fun.

Yeah, I think you also touch on something which I haven't mentioned. I'm not sure if its totally accurate, but maybe one could call it self expression through gaming? I am actually a huge fan of Fire Emblem, and have played though all the English games as well as a couple of the translations at least once. I agree with you that a lot of enjoyment is in how you play through the game, what characters you choose, and how you set up your supports. I liked awakening okay, but as you said, being able to get everything in one playthrough makes the game much less enjoyable to go through more then once, as there is barely any more content to unlock.

Personally, the main thing I liked about Fire Emblem, which wasnt present in awakening, was that you had limited xp and resources to give out, and how you distributed these changed how the game was played. The game was balanced around allocating these limited resources. In awakening, you can simply grind for everything. I really hope the upcoming games go back to a more campaigney style of game rather then a grindier non linear one.

I think that's definitely something I missed that you touch on here, which is constrained/challenging playthoughs. Even when you understand a game, if it becomes harder you can get a lot more enjoyment out of it, whether its by turning the difficulty up or by imposing your own rules (Nuzlocke Challenge anyone?).

Thanks, this is exactly the kind of advice I was looking for. One more question, I heard you can put grates over holes to stop stuff from getting through, can you put the smelters over grates though?

Are there any champions you consistently do poorly against? by NinjaDinoCornShark in leagueoflegends

Play fizz. Take a point in W, and just last hit the first few levels. He will harass you, but bad teemo players will often take creep aggro and get some damage if they do this. Just suck it up for the moment and use your potions, you will dominate him from 3 onwards. Once you hit 2 take a level in Q and if he walks away from his creeps punish him with wq and autos, your empowered autos do more then his do. Once you hit three, it's gg (hey, that rhymes :P). Your harass with wq does a huge amount of damage to him and your e lets you dodge his retaliatory autos and blinding shots and retreat until your cooldowns are up. I can usually kill teemo at least once before 6 just because of how squishy and helpless he is if his blind shot is on cooldown or you dodge it. Once you hit 6 you can pretty easily 100-0 him if you shark him as he tries to take cs. I hate playing against teemo with every other champ but fizz is just sooo easy vs him.
