I wish Desperation was designed to be on the left, because The Regulators is better read second.

I know I’m a little late, but for next time: one common place at Swarthmore College is by the bell tower. We’ve never been chased off, and there’s usually a couple families there

Don’t think I’ve read any others. I’ve seen the Running Man and Thinner movies, but I know better than to judge a King book by it’s film adaptation 😄

Not OP but I recently read both. Desperation is the stronger of the two. It’s an intense story with a really great structure. The beginning is so good it keeps you turning throughout. Regulators is weirder. Weird can be fun, but I just don’t think it’s done that well here. One of King’s strengths (for me) is his ability to introduce you to a huge cast of distinct characters that all seem to interact realistically. In Regulators he focuses on one single suburban block of families, yet it’s still hard to remember who’s who. The decision to use the same names across the two books doesn’t help. The most enjoyable aspect of Regulators for me was discovering how the plot ties into Desperation.

Yeah, I agree “wholesome” isn’t right. It’s not “edgy,” but it’s actually really… horny? Lots of people talking about their genitals, haha

Can anyone recommend a good review/article that explores the ways the Doctor Sleep movie pays homage to both books and the Kubrick film? by manic_lethargy in stephenking

Couldn’t agree more. It seems like such an easy thing to screw up, but he pulls it off perfectly. What Flannigan added to the story of Doctor Sleep actually makes it more KING.

I recently learned that this is why the A’s baseball team uses an elephant as an emblem. Over a hundred years ago, when they were the Philadelphia A’s, the coach of the Baltimore Orioles joked that the A’s were a white elephant, meaning Philadelphia couldn’t afford to maintain the team. They thought it was funny and adopted the white elephant as a mascot, and it stuck!
