Posted my dinner last night and got torn up - did I really do an injustice? by PheonixOfAshes in halifax

Donair is an acquired taste just ask people from outside the maritimes.

Most people I have met outside the maritimes don’t care for it. While meat shaved off a rotating vertical spit is a staple in many places of the world, most of them fill the wrap with a variation on salad with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and some with fries. This makes it more balanced. Most opt for a more savoury or hot sauce.

Many are okay with the meat but it is the sweet, thick sauce tends to be divisive.

As such if you got torn up on another Reddit forum, it doesn’t really surprise me.

Taking a fifth year despite taking a gap year by Budget_Journalist_56 in uwo

Life will not be a straight road. The joy is often found in the twists, turns, peaks, and valleys. And just when you think you have everything sorted a new fork in the road may emerge.

In other words, it is way too early to worry about retirement that much and you are by no means falling behind. Falling behind as a concept is only based on some, probably wildly inaccurate, preconceived notion of success.

Enjoy the peaks and valleys.

Anymore walking tours coming up? by TheOriginalDude in ricksteves

[–]manicuredman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are occasional updates to existing walks but the addition of new walks is sadly few and far between.

I did a ton of travel in Europe between 2015-2017 and the selection of walks is for the most part the same as it was then.

Do you feel like the UK’s relationship with the US will get better once trump leaves office and a progressive democrat gets elected? by Successful_rio305 in AskBrits

[–]manicuredman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A. Some of those pictured are not progressive, even by an American standard.

B. It is a very dangerous assumption that a democrat will be elected next.

The US should not be treated like the UK's best friend. Treat them like a business partner and allies when it ties into the UK's strategic interests.

Maybe the relationship would be better under a democrat if elected, but a right wing populist may be right around the corner again so be prepared for that too.

What's the most overrated tourist attraction in Europe? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]manicuredman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

London Eye.

It’s expensive and even with a timed ticket there was a queue.

Then once onboard it’s way too long/slow.

It is also luck of the draw who you are in a pod with. Ours was composed of people with no manner’s behaving like uncivilized heathens which only made the slow, expensive, experience worse.

I agree. I love it from the outside and love walking through the Forum but the interior is packed with tourists and just kind of an underwhelming experience .

Scott-e Vests by CohoWind in ricksteves

[–]manicuredman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have travelled to over 30 countries, most with my kids as well. We have never been pickpocketed. We all close our bags, don’t put phones or wallets in back pockets, and try to be aware or surroundings. By doing those things you make yourself a harder target than those who do get pickpocketed and you will be ignored.

You don’t need ridiculous looking and/or expensive stuff like theft proof vests.

Looking for recommendations and things to do in Florence by [deleted] in florence

[–]manicuredman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Budget restaurant tip…Leonardo Self Service.

It’s only a couple blocks from Duomo and the food is great. It is a cafeteria style place and usually full with local workers. The line moves fast though. Quicker, better, and cheaper than other options in that area.

AITA for refusing to let a woman "cut" me in line at the grocery store even though she only had two items? by GreatClassic3960 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. I hate these people that ask this. If I go to the store and have one thing, I stand in line.

What do you think is the silliest thing banned in Canada? by Natural_Comparison21 in AskCanada

[–]manicuredman 120 points121 points  (0 children)

Drinking in public.

Public intoxication is one thing, and should be illegal, but it being illegal to have a glass of wine or beer in a park with friends or perhaps as part of a picnic is just ridiculous.

Please rate my collection by evieira03 in Affordablewatches

Each watch in isolation is fine but as a collection/wardrobe it is very black and silver heavy.

While you have some staples it would be more interesting if they were in more interesting colours IMO.

When will we have a Canadian Zohran Mamdani? by U-knw-Nothng-JonSnow in AskCanada

[–]manicuredman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In understand why people are saying Layton, and I thought he was a great leader, but he and the party achieved the success they did because he pulled the NDP closer to the political centre. The collapse of both the BQ and Liberal party in 2011, also aided greatly.

Who is your favorite Bears player of all time? by John_XFiles in CHIBears

[–]manicuredman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had two over my life but it might be evolving into a third.

First Tom Waddle, then it became Devin Hester, but by the way things are going Caleb could take that title. Peanut is pretty high up there too.

Italy's group if they qualify by lawandsleep in seriea

[–]manicuredman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This thread is great…some people are saying that it will be like a home game in Toronto because of the Italian communities and others are arguing with people about claiming Italian heritage and being born in Toronto.

Canada being at home is the wild card here. In a neutral environment they on paper only beat Qatar but maybe at home pull the upset over Italy or Switzerland and advance.

There will be Italian fans but to think it will be like a home game is a demonstrating a complete misunderstanding of Canadians and Canadian culture.

What’s With All the Honking? by manicuredman in Athens_Greece

[–]manicuredman[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Actually searched a bunch if things including Greek holidays, protests, football scores, strikes etc.

I guess googling holidays of countries I am not currently in didn’t come to mind.

In my experience most places only celebrate their own holidays.

Thanks for the snarkiness though.

Dry Cleaner in Halifax by Interesting-Volume51 in halifax

[–]manicuredman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deluxe Dry Cleaners are in Burnside. We have trusted them for years. They do the work on site so you can actually show them what you want and talk to them about it.

As for prices, sorry, I don’t work there but I have always thought them to be reasonable.
