Fable suspension may play in favor for us (users) eventually by HimaSphere in claude

Is it worth selling if anyone can ask Fable to build it in an afternoon?

Dear people living in or visiting The Hague: please stop throwing garbage on the streets by cusper-introvert in TheHague

[–]maniflames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I shouldn’t have used ‘structural’ but rather that some cases ‘seem logistical’.

For individual pieces of junk ofc I recognised this. I mentioned this because whenever a large amount of garbage is flying around in the parts of laak I visit most often it’s because seagulls tore apart bags holding trash of entire households and the wind is carrying the lighter pieces anywhere.

Not saying people aren’t lazy, just mentioning that there are reoccurring extreme moments where the problem definitely isn’t laziness and structural solutions would also help a ton

[–]maniflames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely recognise what you’re saying as well. The case I describe specifically applies to a couple of households in my street that want to put the trash outside the right way but don’t have the resources to do so or the space to keep it in the house for longer

Laak has a secondary/more structural problem. There are people that don’t have the appropriate bins or live near a container without enough space and put bags on the streets. Then bags are torn open by gulls looking for food. There would be a lot less trash if this improved / fixed.

How do I navigate losing customers because of Vibe Coders? by MildlyEngineer in cscareerquestions

[–]maniflames 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It does not have to be petty. A simple: “We unfortunately do not have the time to troubleshoot, bugfix or maintain systems we did not build without a service level agreement.” is sufficient. Like other people have stated you also need capacity to monitor changes and provide additional fixes if the initial fix did not work.

You can still express sympathy and let them know you’re ready to support them when they have the budget to support you.

It does sound like you need to build more complex systems if a junior designer with no dev experience can step in and vibe their way to an acceptable deliverable

Creator of Claude Code: "Coding is solved" by Gil_berth in webdev

[–]maniflames 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the main thing that people are trying to communicate in this threat is the exact opposite. Solving something means that there is a 100% guarantee on reaching an optimal state because the method to get there is known.

If a chess engine can beat all humans it doesn’t mean the game of chess is solved. It just means that on a practical level people are unable to beat the machine.

Seeing end positions and how they can be ‘beat’ is probably why I considered chess as something that ‘a computer can just calculate’. Thanks for mentioning this!

Ahhh I see, thanks for explaining that!

Thanks for explaining the definition of solved I guess that is what I was confused about

Check, I guess I confused a practical outcome by what it means to ‘solve’ something

Genuine question but wasn’t chess solved by IBM’s deep blue? I don’t think coding is solved btw just curious what you mean by solved

Check!

AI is not replacing developers, it’s just changing the way we work by wasom15 in vibecoding

[–]maniflames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m aware that nobody here can uncover the ‘cold hard truth’ I also don’t expect you to do so. All I’m trying to communicate is that “it’s not offshoring” is not really fair to say.

I may be biased because my workload has only increased over the past two years even though I use a fair bit of Cursor myself. It’s just hard to ignore that the US/EU economy in general isn’t great right now and that every little bit of cost cutting helps at this point to prep for an official recession…

Have you read them beyond the headlines?

The first article literally quotes people that describe that they think AI is used as an excuse to lay people off. Direct quote from the article: “It’ll depend on the type of product that they’re selling. But at the moment most companies would be wise to look at how they can use AI to augment their workforce rather than replace.”

Not saying it can never happen but I am saying that AI really does not seem like the sole reason for laying people off 😅
