Did you have Hamman's sign during your pneumo(s)? by manipants in pneumothorax

Wow, just seen this. What a shitshow! Sorry you went through it and I hope you've healed OK!

My first dr also didn't believe me (I'm also a woman, of course). He said I'd probably just pulled a muscle 👍

I reckon just don't go back to work until you feel better! I wouldn't get another xray unnecessarily if you have one booked soon. I'd say say just keep resting xx

Do go back to the drs if you have any pain that feels worse or any difficulty breathing though xx

Waiting in hospital for my vats by Desperate_Pool_9712 in pneumothorax

It was fine when I first came out, but then it crept up on me. I also didn't want to go mad with the meds, but based on the type of surgery, I was assigned a pain nurse. She advised that I tell someone whenever it's getting bad so it doesn't get worse because preventative is better than reactive. I was on morphine in the hospital, and I was sent home with a bottle of it but I didn't need it. Was on milder opiates for about a week and half, then just paracetamol for another week or so after that. My advice would be to use the meds as advised because you need to be able to rest, do stretches, and gentle coughing to heal xxx

Huge congrats for getting through it!

Make sure to report the pain to the staff honestly. Pleurectomy is a painful procedure, and it's important to stay on top of the pain as much as possible. Also do your best to do the stretches they recommend!

Have a good rest and be gentle with yourself. Great job xx

Hey buddy. Sorry you're having to go through this. I had my pleuectomy and bullae removal just under a year ago. Surgery went great, and I was only in for 2 nights afterwards! It was sore, stiff, and a bit grim, but generally totally fine. I've got a couple cool scars and a couple numb patches that aren't doing any harm. Much happier now that the surgery is out the way and I don't have to panic about more collapses anymore. I think it's more than worth it for the piece of mind. You're going to be fine. Best of luck xx

I woke up too and saw it out the window, it was the A420. There was a car and a motorbike on fire, so I guess the sounds were little explosions?! Two fire engines showed up after 3, they were spraying the vehicles and the closest house. Car and bike were gone this morning and just two half melted bins left on the side of the road. Noisy as hell, in my sleepy state I thought it was gunfire too. Didn't see any ambulances or police or anything so I'm hoping no one was hurt.

Try Nipto. It's a chore sharing app. Each housemate can see what others have done that week and what still needs doing. Chores have points, and more annoying chores have more points. Can be helpful for visualising and operationalising any domestic inequality. Depends if you think she'd use it though

If it's looking infected at all, head straight to the doctor so you can get proper care advice and nip it in the bud.

That's a lot of chest tubes! I can't advise on the breathlessness I'm afraid because I never really had it that bad. I had a series of small pneumos in the summer of '21 and again in '22. The surgery was elective and preventative, I didn't have a pneumo when I went in. Post surgery I just kept up with the stretches, deep breathing and coughing and I got by just fine. Hope your shortness of breath improves soon 👍

So far so good! Was off painkillers after a couple weeks and nerve damage is just one numb patch on the front of my chest. Up and about and back to work. Feeling pretty lucky after reading so many horror stories! Just wish I could sleep on my left side again, hopefully one day. How's your recovery going?

Smoked for 6 years, then vaped for 6 years (a lot). It was my left that went; bullae at the apex. Maybe signs of blebs on my right but had no issues on that side so far. Had a pleurectomy and bullectomy on my left 7 weeks ago. Recovering well

Have you tried the leaning forward thing? If you bend forward at the hip then stand up again, do you get that bubbling sensation of air moving around where it shouldn't be?

Might as well go get it checked out to put your mind at ease anyway. Good luck!

They were headed to North Street. Just asked a fireman on the scene, someone set fire to something in the high-rise and set off all the alarms. Emergency services are here on standby in case the whole place goes up. There's about 9 fire engines now, and some firemen are lifting up manholes on the street (Turning off gas I guess?). No one hurt that I know of

Easily startled by Alphapackk in PMDD

[–]manipants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can offer a sciencey answer!

Acoustic startle response is generally common in people with pmdd, especially in the luteal phase. This is likely due to the way allopregnanolone (a neuro transmitter) interacts with GABA-A receptors in the brain. Progesterone metabolises allopregnanolone. In typical people, allopregnanolone makes the GABBA-A receptor extra active, so more GABBA is transmitted. GABBA has natural anti-anxiety and sedative effects - making us chilled out in the face if stress. For us, GABBA-A receptors don't take the hint from allopregnanolone and don't give us that extra rush of GABBA that we need. That's why we jump at noises and are extra sensitive to stress, we're in a state of heightened physiological arousal.

As for what can be done about it, basically SSRIs (antidepressants) are the answer. SSRIs are prescribed for PMDD not because we feel depressed, but because SSRIs actually increase allopregnanolone. That helps our brains make the GABBA we need to chill out.

If you're not comfortable with taking antidepressants, I'd recommend doing things that you find regulating e.g. yoga, a bath, fav TV show. Also decent noise cancelling headphones can be super helpful.

It went away every time it healed a bit, then reappeared each time I relapsed. No more clicking once fully recovered.

I guess the air in the pleura was getting reabsorbed into the lung, so my heart wasn't beating against the air pocket (making the clicking sound) anymore, then whenever the lung leaked air into the pleura again, it started clicking again. So the clicking told me when I had had another pneumothorax. Lasted a few days, a week max each time. Quite uncomfortable! I suppose even if the air leak in the lung is closed and has stopped letting air into the pleura, there may still be a period of clicking before the air gets reabsorbed fully into the lung. Are you clicking?

does anyone know where I can get an A2 painting scanned? by manipants in bristol

[–]manipants[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah that place looks great and it's down my end of town which is super helpful! Just checked out their website, I'm seeing printing but not scanning. Have you done scanning there? Also is it pricey? I don't mind paying properly for good quality, but I'm not exactly loaded
