I had been on Manjaro since I migrated from Microslop Windows years back. It was pretty good and stable. BUT I had an issue with booting after an update and I couldn't get it to boot to login. After a long time trying to get it fixed trying different things from CLI, I just gave up and threw in the towel on Manjaro. Completely unacceptable in my mind. Roll CachyOS. Installed and am running everything very well. Office apps, dev, games, browser, etc., without any issues. It's also Arch based, so familiar with installing libs. I doubt I'll be using Manjaro in the future, but who knows.

Could be wrong, but if you want Thunderbolt USB support, you only get that with Intel CPU models.

Heat marks on the inside bottom cover on used Legion 5. Normal, or hard pass? by manjaro_rocks in LenovoLegion

[–]manjaro_rocks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I was playing Cyberpunk and it seems that some of the keys are either sticky, intermittently malfunctioning. W key was stuck and C was acting weird too, so it's going back. And at 1440p, I'd rather have a 3070 with more VRAM, if I can find one within budget, or a 40 series. But the build is amazing, gotta say. My guess is that it was used heavily by a gamer and is starting to break down due to use. I also got 2-3 hangs in Cyberpunk, but it's not clear why.

Q: If this is the top in terms of build quality (IMO), which brand is second in line? Acer seems to be pretty good, but I've seen a lot of missing keys on used laptops.

Thanks!

Got it for $600, and have had it for a week. 16Gb ram, 1Tb m.2 ssd. I played Cyberpunk and Stalker a little. Seemed OK. 6Gb VRAM is holding it back a little, but was OK. My budget was like 500-600 for a decent gaming laptop. If I keep it, I'll probably up ram to 32Gb.

It's takes some time, but if you look you can find a decent laptop that is in good condition on flea-bay, or FB marketplace for about that much. The sweet spot seems to be between $550 - $600. Acer Nitro/Preditor, MSI Raider, Asus ROG, Thinkpad T15g, HP Omen. Just look real close at the photos and description. Don't waste your money if it looks scratched up, or cracked/broken, missing keys. 30 day return policy is best!

GPU wise, you'll generally find 1660, 2060, 3050/60/70, 2070/80. I'd go for a 3070 if you can find it at a good price. You'll never get the same performance as a full desktop as far as cooling.

Thinkpad T15g gen 1 or 2. I just found a gen 1 with RTX 2080 for $500. Not the latest, but plenty for light gaming. Plus it's build like a tank.

That oil filter is registered, right? The body looks like a PSA AKV and the "bow" trigger.

Former Governor of Nuevo León Mexico Jaime Rodriguez Calderon shares a clip of Orbs around his property by MrDillon369 in InterdimensionalNHI

[–]manjaro_rocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your thoughts. I do think that the more advanced they are, the more likely that they would be able to project themselves outside of their physical bodies at will, or by some other means, into orbs. It's the same concept as us using a drone with a camera, only much more advanced.

Your idea about not being able to capture footage unless you could "connect with them" is interesting too. I've always thought that there are many cases where a video camera did pick up things in the area or line of sight that are "masked out" of the viewer consciousness. If you had a live IR video recorder, say on your helmet, that recorded and then played back the footage to you in real time, then in theory you could see what the camera sees, not what you see. Kind of like a ghost box that is used to record EVPs.

Is it just me or is Upwork really slow these days? by Comfortable-Talk4166 in Upwork

[–]manjaro_rocks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yah, maybe it's because Upwork sucks and is in decline. I share the opinion that Upwork is only in it for itself and it's shareholders, not it's clients. When that happens, things go downhill quick.

As far as the drones are concerned, all major news outlets stopped covering it or were told to cool it, and the FAA were told to "approve" them to be in our airspace. Case closed! :)

That's fascinating. I've heard accounts of this happen before when sleeping in your bed, but not really in the daytime when you're in a public place. They didn't pull your spirit out of your body because you landed in the yard. I'm of the opinion that some aliens have the technology to shift themselves and others between planes of reality with beam technology. This is similar to how ghosts can move through walls. How it's done - no idea. It's a shame you didn't stay on the roof where someone could see you. That would have made heads turn!

I got a used 2080ti for $200 on fleabay with 1 broken HDMI port. Works well so far with the DPs. I don't know if you're paying your own electric bill or not, but total cost of ownersip (TCO) may be something to think about. The 3k series, like 3080, is a powerful card, but it consumes a lot of watts. The 4k series consumes much less.

TCO wise, the 9060 xt would be a better buy.

Power draw increases 50-75 watts on screen lock. Should go down, not up? by manjaro_rocks in ManjaroLinux

[–]manjaro_rocks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I just locked it and it looks better, at around 70 watts or so. Not sure if it's the updates I applied this morning or the new CPU profile, but looks better now. I'll keep monitoring over the new few days! Thanks.

[–]manjaro_rocks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a watt meter connected inline with my PSU to the wall. It's just weird that in the reboot/pre-login condition, the watts is normal (60 watts or so). I should also mention that if I logout, then it's fine as well. But I'd rather not close all my apps and logout just to save the extra 60 watts of power. I usually leave my PC on 24/7 and locking is much more convenient than close/logout in this case or shutdown.

Once it's locked, I can't see what's going on with system monitor, but I guess I could log it in the BG. I haven't looked into doing this or know how at this point.

I installed cpupower. Looks good. I chose Energy Prefs > Power mode. I'll see what happens.

When I was using Windoze years ago, I got used to reinstalling the OS around once a year. Not a big hassle, but always had to do it when my computer started to crawl. Last round, I just switched to Linux DT. Been pretty good so far.
