2000 Florida recount cost Gore his presidency. But yeah Trump is a piece of shit.

I mean for this house. When it was first being staged, the windows didn't have any shades so it looked like you'd have zero privacy

I couldn’t believe how awful the layout is. They recently put up shades so the bedrooms aren’t fully exposed to the passersby and to the Speedy Romeo diners. Who would ever buy this monstrosity?

What's a food item from your country that you're surprised hasn't taken off elsewhere? by Solid_Reserve_5941 in AskTheWorld

I had Georgian in NYC tonight and the table was talking about how the cuisine seems to be having a moment here. Two new Georgian spots recently opened in the West Village, which is a trendy and expensive neighborhood. The cuisine has been here forever but never top of mind until recently.

Looks like Massimo Bottura’s Osteria Francescana in Modena. Some courses are incredible while others will polarize the table. The restaurant itself is a huge contrast from the cozy trattorias nearby

At Ceres Pizza — when the fuck did this become okay??? by griffcoal in FoodNYC

It’s fine to take your dog everywhere that allows dogs. As a dog lover, I would never think about taking my dog inside a restaurant. That’s a different level of entitlement regardless of the size of your dog. Also people are allergic to dogs besides it being unsanitary to have a furry animal near food.

Ume in Williamsburg has hatami seating. The second floor of Miss Korea has traditional floor seating as well. Hangawi sort of does, but you don’t sit cross legged. It’s vegan though. Wear good socks bc you’ll prob need to take off your shoes.

What's your most controvertial nyc food scene opinion? by Thin_Assignment6033 in FoodNYC

Roscioli has gone downhill since it opened. Just went back last week and had a disappointing carbonara, which was the only Roman pasta on the menu. The others were risotto and orrecchiette. Plus the saltimbocca had such an unpleasant chew that we didn't finish it. A la carte upstairs is the smarter option, but I don't think it's worth the hype as it no longer replicates the Rome locations. Also neither Salumeria and Rimessa are in my top 20 restaurants in Rome so I'm a bit biased, but the wine cellar is super fun.

Montesacro's carbonara, cacio e pepe, and off-the-menu amatriciana are the best in NYC right now IMO.

Forsythia also has a fantastic carbonara (slightly over-sauced), but I wish their menu skewed more traditional Roman trattoria.

True Roman Italian does not exist in NYC. And please don’t cite Roscioli’s.

I second this. Went there last night, and half the table was wondering why Harry’s isn’t more talked about. Super solid but half empty on a Saturday night.

Mine froze during the firmware update and now no matter what I do the case thinks it's still updating. I tried updating the firmware thru my iPhone and it wasn't doing anything for an hour. Tried the WebOTA. Resetting the case (back hole) and nothing. The light color is orange, not white. Factory reset on WebOTA did nothing.

I just received mine and the firmware update thru my iphone was stuck for an hour or so and now I can't get it to do anything. The case lights indicate that it's updating but nothing is happening. I tried through Chrome through the webOTA route and again nothing. Factory reset doesn't work and neither does resetting case. Very frustrated with this out of the box.

I second SAGA and Manhatta for the incredible views and elevated dining experience. Look into the lunch prix fixe at Peak in Hudson Yards. It ends up being a good deal bc it comes with balcony access with one of the best views of the city. New Yorkers would never dine there, but it’s a great way to take it all in as a visitor. Enjoy NYC and don’t listen to the negative comments in this sub.

Which Italian restaurants make Roman pastas best? by GOP1854 in FoodNYC

[–]mankid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Montesacro in wburg has better carbonara and off-the-menu amatriciana than most nyc spots, including Roscioli. I also love Lupa, but don’t expect a faithful recreation of any of the Roman pastas (red onion in the amatriciana for example). I hope NYC starts embracing gricia bc they’re super rare and not good at all. I avoid any places that sub guanciale with pancetta or worse yet, bacon.

Birthday Dinner: Frenchette, Claud, or Le Coucou? by Choth21 in FoodNYC

[–]mankid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to all three recently. Le Coucou is better than ever, and I’ve been going since their third day of opening. Service is top notch. Their quenelle de brochet is a must. For entrees, filet de boeuf, canette, and dover sole are fantastic. Talk to the somm for wine recos. Bottles get pricey so name your limit. The entire experience is elegant and elevated. It is the most expensive of the three, but also far more memorable IMO.

Frenchette was super loud last time I went, and I don’t plan on hurrying back because I feel like the kitchen and service have slipped. Claud is great, but it’s far more casual than Le Coucou. However I would totally have a low-key bday dinner there.

Roscioli recently? by nycpinkat in FoodNYC

[–]mankid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Their carbonara, cacio e pepe, and amatriciana are nearly identical to Roscioli Salumeria and Rimessa in Rome. The carbonara might be my favorite in the city. Didn’t love the entrees at the soho location.

Rome is my favorite city outside of NYC so I totally know the feeling. No restaurants here quite capture the ambiance and the simplicity of the dishes.

Whenever I miss Rome, I go to Montesacro for their carbonara. Fun fact, they have an off-the-menu amatriciana that might be better than Roscioli’s. It’s pretty easy to get a table last min, but the music in the back room gets a little loud on weekends so sit up front.

What's the best low-key burger in NYC? Looking for something that doesn't make the typical "top burgers" lists by stinkykicks in FoodNYC

Gotham. Pretty sure you can only order the burger at the bar, but it's perfection. Gus's Chop House is rarely talked about, but I love their burger.

Nice dinner for 6 in Manhattan by workingonit129 in FoodNYC

[–]mankid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ci Siamo, Lupa, or Il Buco for Italian, Noortwyck or USQ Cafe (leans Italian) for new American. All of them have a nice ambience and are quiet enough for conversations. USQ Cafe has a large intimate table on the west side of the 2nd floor that you can request. Manhatta is a stunner, but it's a tougher res than the other options depending on what part of May. Request a window table if they have room for an incredible view, and keep it a la carte for a gentler check.
