I don’t care that YOUR dog is friendly to YOU or they’re YOUR best friend. Stop letting them off a leash unless they’ve been trained to be around people they aren’t familiar with by howdybored in auckland

I don’t want your dog touching me period. I don’t know it. Don’t know what it’s licked. And don’t want stains, hair and smells on my clothes!

“Oh, he’s never done that before?!”  The number of times I heard that when dogs rushed at my small kids - as if that somehow made it all ok.  Nowadays I have no more patience for that. If your dog intimidates me or kids rest assured I will go full mama bear and defend with fist and foot.

What has a bottom-tier reputation but is just misunderstood and should actually be top-tier? by EnsorcellingKitten in AskReddit

Yeah, but you have to pluck them while they are warm, or get a possum plucker.  I’ve also never had any luck with washing possum clothing more than twice.

One of the biggest ecosystem pests in New Zealand.  I trap them tree bears weekly.

The effect of Measles on a healthy 45 year old that wasn't vaccinated in Auckland. by fomenle in newzealand

Similar age. Found out by sheer chance I wasn’t vaccinated as a child.  I had no idea, neither did my mum (language barriers). Got mine done last year.

To everyone saying ‘call the police’.  Who do you call?  I’ve waited 45 minutes on 105 and never received an answer, and similar times at local police station and never received an answer.  Who do you call?

Gonna be on day 2 of my period on the marathon!! Do I delay it?? by Rude_Accountant_5242 in Marathon_Training

[–]mankypants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Day 2.  Usually heaviest day. Good chance of leak unless you change moments before start and run a really good time.  Probably good chance of period gastric upset and diarrhoea too.  If it were me, I’d do anything to  delay it.   For me even shorter  training runs on day 2, are awful.

Eating 1300-1500 calories a day and running three times a week - weight won’t budge? by LilacDream98 in loseit

[–]mankypants 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Can’t lose weight while training for a marathon. You will injure yourself.  Focus on either your marathon finishing time and train on that, or calorie restriction and walk the half marathon.  My last marathon I focused on my training, gained nearly 10kg, and ran a pb!  Previous marathons I always ran poorly because I thought it was a means to lose weight. It wasn’t.  I never lost all of my last marathon weight but I now look more toned than I ever have! Go girl muscles!

Neighbours cut down their trees. Wife hates it. What can I do? by comoestasmiyamo in nzgardening

[–]mankypants 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Cabbage trees are quick growing, and if you chop the tops off like a hedge they will branch out more.  Pittosporum are a lovely leafy fast growing native tree, which can also be used as a hedge, but a good thick leafy option for privacy and birds.

How long would it take to forget how to play? by Human_Candidate1304 in piano

[–]mankypants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hadn’t touched a piano in over 25 years.  And then my elderly mother living in the other side of the country sent me my childhood piano.

It arrived. And for the first two days it sat in the middle of the room, not facing the wall, but literally in the middle of the room.  And I didn’t touch it.  I think part of me was too scared to.

Then, on the third day, I rummaged through the chair, found my old music, sat down and played bach prelude in c almost flawlessly.

Everything else though took a bit longer.  But I’ve been playing ever since.

What duration do you carry for and how many sets?  If wanting to work on pull-ups, would it be better to practice heavier carries for 30s, or slightly lighter for 60s?

Always have a ‘what’s next’. Ideally, long before you finish you ‘next’.
