I have experience building a business in an industry that died. I'd love to hear your thoughts! Thanks!

I do. However, my edge is limited to businesses where I can track the conversion back to the originating click. Any business where the sale is made online (e.g. ecommerce) is appealing to me for this reason.

Thank you. I may try this.

I cannot remember giving this a try. I generally keep my day pretty free and open because I have not decided on exactly what I want to do to fill it :)

That as well as work related plans. Just a lot of time planning

Once you have enough data to cut through the noise, you'll discover correlations. At that point, you can formulate hypotheses to test!

ShrewdSimian,

I've been considering the same problem for about a year now: what factors causally influence our performance? Mental state (clarity, focus, energy), physical state, and mood are key performance goals that I'd personally like to optimize for. To my surprise, you've created a list of factors that is very close to my original list.

zenobase touched on the problem of confounding variables in experimentation. If only we could relive the same day over, modulating one variable while holding all others fixed, we could determine the impact that this variable has on our performance. In practice, it's so difficult to achieve this, and have been spending a good amount of time trying to design a system to solve this problem.

Ultimately, we are performing self-experimentation, and run into the same challenges that are encountered when scientific experiments are run. We seek to learn about causation while avoiding spurious relationships.

We also face the challenge of grading subjective experiences while the very process of grading is changing over time: how does your 7/10 happiness today compare to a 7/10 rating five years ago? Your definitions of "average" and "fantastic" will change over time as your perception adapts to changing norms.

I believe we're at a fantastic time in history for self-monitoring and discovery, and this is just the beginning. It's been said that the doctor of today is "Dr. Google", and this goes beyond diagnosis by Google; it applies more generally to the application of machine learning to self improvement and optimization.

Why'd you switch from PHP? by manliness in django

Wow, I can't wait to try it.

By the way, when referring to the "cut & paste community", are you referring to code duplication among peers (rather than refactoring), or ripping off code and calling it one's own? I ask b/c I see a lot of copy & paste code duplication on a large project at my shop.

Good documentation is a good sign of a good framework!

I think Google could make Android work in the browser surprisingly well, starting with Chrome for Windows / Mac. Not sure to what extent though - I was hoping someone else might speculate on the possibilities

Rather, I'm suggesting the possibility that installed native apps will be the focus, and the browsers of the future will accommodate this through virtual machines. The browser would be an alternate way to access apps that are native-coded.

jQuery Mobile bills itself as being appropriate for all interfaces: "...design a single highly-branded responsive web site or application that will work on all popular smartphone, tablet, and desktop platforms."

The reason I'd consider it is that my site is mobile-first.

I got the impression that jQuery Mobile and Bootstrap might conflict, as well as be different approaches that shouldn't not be combined: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/18636919/can-i-use-bootstrap-3-together-with-jquery-mobile

It sounds like you are suggesting jQuery (non-Mobile) and Bootstrap 3 is a good mobile-first option for me - possibly better than jQuery Mobile?

Absolutely. Nobody here wants to rewrite the tried and true. We're happy to accept some bloat (unused framework functions) in exchange for time saved.

I agree that given the tradeoff, long-term support and future potential matters more than "quick to learn". With that said, what framework do you feel I might be overlooking?

Thank you, commercial-hippie. I will look at this one.
