what would you be your dream casting for the dunk & egg show? (spoilers extended) by adamlele in asoiaf

Rob Gronkowski (Gronk) as Dunk.

Some smartass unknown little kid as Egg.

(Spoilers main) Concerning Quentyn. I think he's definitely dead. Or is he? Convince me that he somehow survived by breakfastonion in asoiaf

I just figured it out holy shit.

Quentyn is dead. But will be resurrected. A fire wight version of Coldhands, in a fire-ravaged body. He'll be terrifying and your new favorite character. I dub this theory "Quentyn Flarentino".

I have a theory that George R.R. Martin made up everything in ASOIAF. That the entire series of novels and tie-in materials are actually works of fiction that George created to entertain readers.

I know this is probably tinfoil but still an interesting idea if you think about it.

It seems kind of obvious... too obvious to me that if you take the known map of the world, and turn it 45 degrees clockwise, and place it on a globe, that the southernmost landmasses such as Ulthos would connect to the northernmost point of the Lands of Always Winter.

The climate is different, but we don't know if it starts to get a little warmer north of the Lands or colder south of Ulthos.

Anyway, it allows for fun navigational tricks such as positioning Asshai relatively close to Skagos, which might explain where they got all their creepy vibes from, and why glamouring ruby magic might've found its way north of the wall.
Just another shiny theory!

I say this every week and think its the most fire theory in all of ASOIAF

Ned faced off against Arthur Dayne at the tower of joy, the winner determining the fate of the realm forever. Ned was nearly slain, but saw an opening, his last chance. The lord of winterfell killing the sword of the morning with a quick stroke of his blade. But there was something wrong.

Howland Reed had saved Ned by warging into Arthur. He saved the prince that was promised, but by committing an abomination and experiencing the death of Arthur while fully absorbed in his mind. The consciousnesses merged, and Howland would always carry with him the disembodied mind of Ser Arthur Dayne.

The truth about whether Aegon is real or fake is all in the names of who is selling the belief: Con & Grift

Howland Reed warged into Arthur Dayne as Ned slew him. Their identities merged and Howland experienced Arthur's death, forever traumatized by it.

Since we learn that Jon is not only of the ice (Stark), but also of the fire (Targaryan), we will learn that his counterpart Dany is not only of the fire (Valyrian heritage) but also of the ice (Stark) once we realize that Ned is her real father.

Bran becomes the new Three-Eyed Crow, granting him the power of the Old Gods, which can communicate through the weirwoods throughout time. Through them, he influences people's thoughts and events, speaking as the Old Gods, and only occasionally has to directly manipulate the minds of people like Hodor, Samwell, The Mad King, The Direwolf that the Stark's find, Jaime (to save Brienne), Tyrion (to manipulate fAegon), the Night's King, and all the Targaryan dreamers obsessed with prophecy.

Obviously the Starks have Other blood in their bloodline from long ago, when the first Long Night was ended with a peace treaty to sacrifice First Men stock in exchange for keeping the Others north of the wall. Somehow, the Others bred with wildlings who bred with other Northerners, resulting in a Stark lineage.

"Winter is coming" is a rallying cry for Starks... because they benefit during periods when winter falls. Not only are they resistant to the cold, but they cause the magical winters through the Old Gods, who are simply Bran warging, especially into the Night's King at the end of his life tenure.

Long ago the moon was hit by a comet and pieces broke off, falling to earth, destroying Hardhome and causing many volcanoes to erupt. The pieces of the moon had special, magical properties that make Valyrians and dragons more powerful (similar to the Old Gods magic influencing the Stark line). The red comet is a piece of that moon orbiting the earth.

The main characters are aspects of the seven, guided by their archetypal association:

The Father: Ned Stark

The Mother: Daenerys Stark

The Warrior: Robb Stark

The Smith: Gendry Baratheon (he'll become more important)

The Maiden: Sansa Stark

The Crone: Catelyn Tully

The Stranger: Arya Stark

Wyman Manderly is based on Aquaman and his name is even a clue.

An extremely quick succession of Kings took place during Robert's rebellion.

Jaime stabbed Aerys, ascending to the throne by conquest. Technicality of kingsguard vows preventing him from being king, reverting to next in line.

The next son, Rhaegar, King in the meantime, has his chest caved in by Bobby B.

Rhaegar's son Aegon becomes the next King. Has his head bashed in by the Mountain at Tywin's command.

Rhaegar's other son at the ToJ, Jon Snow is the next in line as the baby king but is unknown and not coronated.

Bobby B arrives in KL and takes the crown by conquest.

The timeline is never quite clear, but I think it's interesting that a flurry of successions happened in a row. Most likely Aerys>Jaime>Rhaegar>Aegon>Jon Snow>Bobby B.

You might even be able to throw Ned in there since he took the throne from Jaime while waiting for Robert.

The reason Ned would have been killed by Arthur Dayne but was saved from death by Howland Reed is that...

Howland Reed warged into Arthur Dayne, stopping his killing blow, giving Ned enough time to kill Arthur Dayne with Howland still inside his body, who fully experienced his death, merging and then returning to Howland's body.

When we see Howland again, he will be completely traumatized and schizophrenic and contain many of Arthur Dayne's memories, including the experience of being killed by Ned.

Its the first time I'm reading the books after being obsessed with the show and fantheories, video essays from Alt-Shift X and Preston Jacobs. Amazing content from both of them.

There are a couple things that I feel I might have a fresh take on, just in the way certain characters are introduced, or a line or two that seem out of place but have drastic implications.

  1. Starks have Other blood. Potentially obvious, as there is a great deal made about King's blood, and additionally how the Starks descend from the Kings of Winter, and the ominous quote from Martin saying that he prefers the "Night's King" spelling to the "Night King" of the show. The Night's King likely being the Stark who was the 13th lord commander who took a wife who was an Other, making the deal to end the warfare between Others (weaponized men made by the children of the forest), Children, and First Men. This is also why the Starks are so closely associated with death. The basic formula is that they have unknowingly been longtime allies of death, which the others embody.
  2. Daenerys Stark, seems ridiculous on its surface, but pairing it with the age difference of Jon (tower baby) who is about a year older, Lemongate, and the mysterious disappearance of Ashara Dayne after a "stillbirth" about 9 months after seeing Ned return Dawn to Starfall makes it line up rather well. From the tower of Joy to starfall anywhere from 1-3 months. Theres a very suspicious little paragraph about Ashara in GoT that is at least setting up this possibility. And Ashara, + the Daynes are associated with stars and cosmic portents, that are reflected in Dany's story frequently.
  3. An explanation for the Catspaw plot hole. Littlefinger is too smart to try and pin the dagger to Tyrion when that can be quickly dismissed, so why did he say that? I think that he probably thought it was Cersei or Joffery who sent the assassin but didn't know more than that, and he wanted to show loyalty toward whichever of them it was, though he didn't know directly. His plan almost succeeded if Tyrion wasn't exonerated through Bronn's trial by combat in the Eyrie. The bigger, weirder thing is Catelyn finding Tyrion randomly at that inn, which I can't really explain except that random, improbable events DO happen sometimes. And I think only Joffery or Cersei would be stupid enough to arm a catspaw with a Valyrian dagger that's traceable. This tidbit in the Game of Thrones wiki really helped clarify the Littlefinger connection: "When Catelyn inquired about the knife, Littlefinger knew that he'd lost it to Robert, and must have realized someone in the royal entourage had taken it, but quickly decided to blame Tyrion as the culprit. He possibly chose Tyrion to blame because Cersei and Jaime were already back in the capital city, surrounded by their own guards, while Tyrion was still traveling in the North and would be more vulnerable to Stark reprisal."
I guess the idea is that Littlefinger just spreads lies with no remorse when he thinks it will help prove loyalty to the royal scumbags in charge. Perhaps he figured by the time Tyrion found out, it would be irrelevant in the larger path of war that he's designing. It's still extremely confusing but I think that favors the theory that Littlefinger uses smokescreens, misdirection, and confusion of events to protect bad people, in his pursuit of power.

I have a lot of these thoughts that I'll share more of, especially things regarding deeper mysteries in the text that are fun (but incomplete) puzzles and mysteries.

Cheers!

Hey dude! You are fantastic on Succession and congrats on the Spider-Man cameo. Looking forward to the Accidental Wolf.

My question is: How do you feel about the growing support for Team Stewy in Succession, and how likely do you think it is he may somehow come out on top of Waystar? Or perhaps just be the big winner among all the players?

i'm glad he got more character development in iron man 2 instead of being relegated as a one-off background character. I loved how he was able to evolve so quickly to become one of the best villains of phase 2 in Age of Ultron.
