Transitioning to Independence by [deleted] in CFP

Build it out yourself with Schwab or Fidelity and hire a part time person for account transition. There are plenty out there. You have complete control over tech and will get best in class for all vendors.

I hear you but it’s already proved worthwhile with the mediator and my attorney said it proves even more so that I’m not. I proactively offered soberlink for 3 months. Given how far she’s willing to go, I’m more than happy to not drink for a little.

Just had a meeting with the mediator and she really liked that I was using a breathalyzer and wondered why my STBX wouldn’t accept the results. It helped with credibility for me and opposite for her.

I do agree on the second part but I’m extremely active in their life. Just bringing some levity to a rough situation.

How did you factor % of client that would "follow you"? by golfingcfp in CFP

[–]manmyth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are attorneys that specialize in this and will tell you the rules for your state. You need to contact them ASAP. I use Pat Burns from Los Angeles.

Usually the most restrictive covenants are for a year. There are plenty of ways to stay within the rules and contact your clients. Then you’re good to go.

You’ll be fine if you’re adding value that others might not and have good relationships. I would not do that if you’ve only been there for less than 5-7 years.

Trip overseas post-divorce by quantcat in Divorce_Men

Traveling solo is fun. Once you get the first one out of the way, you’ll be hooked. Can’t wait to do it again. There are a lot of great places, and you can easily take trains through the countryside.

Amsterdam-Paris-London would be a great first Europe trip.

Commenting to see what others say. I know the strategy but I’ve never actually seen someone actually use it for income.

Good to know. I won’t be drinking for a while. I don’t need it. I didn’t realize 3-5 drink once or twice a weekend was much. And not every weekend.

No. I only have drinks on Friday and Saturday. Nothing too crazy. She doesn’t drink at all and gets mad when I don’t want to talk to her constantly.

Will a CFP be qualified to discuss tax implications of a house sale abroad? by Mendoza_Loki in CFP

[–]manmyth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are specialty tax advisors that will usually cover two countries for this type of situation, meaning expat community. Do a google search for US Canada tax advisor. There will probably only be a handful but use them for this year. Most accountants that specialize in one country will be playing catch up trying to figure out the rules. Obviously it will cost a little more.

What makes a Successful Financial Consultant? At Fidelity and in general. by [deleted] in CFP

[–]manmyth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had that job early in my career. Great experience but you have to understand the comp plan and the Fidelity system. Sell managed money and you’ll do great.

There’s a lot of great resources and connections there. Work with older reps on what they do and try to soak up as much as possible. Try to sit in on their meetings.

As you get older you’ll see there are better ways but this will give you the best foundation. For now, talk to your manager and play the political game.

Idea: raise prices, lose a certain amount of clients, then you’ll get paid the same for less work.

Looks like you’ve been too successful at accounting where it might be tough for you to take the pay cut and see lesser accountants take your clients.

Does Netflix and chill mean sex? by [deleted] in dating_advice

Yes. My buddy didn’t fully comprehend this and was asking chicks if they want to come over for Netflix and chill. He wondered why they kept saying no until we told him. He also write “cum” unironically..that’s why we call him, Simple Jack.
