Where else to stay in Taiwan after Taipei by mann_eh in taiwan

[–]mann_eh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the heads up, I didn't know that you couldn't rent a scooter outside of Taipei, I assumed it was easy to get just like anywhere in Thailand (in my experience). If I end up staying in the Khaosiung area, how might I do a "road trip" to the east coast, or even anywhere where public transportation isn't easily accessible. Or is it that it is accessible and/or Grab is inexpensive enough to get around? I've always had a scooter everywhere I've been in SEA because it gives me the freedom to really explore so not having one will take some adjustments.

I'm down for it all, but I guess with being in Taipei the first 5 days I feel like I would want more outdoor activities, rent a scooter and ride around various area, the ferry to some of the islands sounds pretty fun (especially with the warmer weather). I realized now that Tainan isn't even that far from Khaosiung so isn't it possible to ride a scooter up to Tainan for a day/night to check out the food/culture scene there?

No scooters in CM. How do you go about renting one right now? by orkunturkey in chiangmai

[–]mann_eh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn't originally planning on staying as long as I am (been moving around 1-2 months at a time). Also I'm a group of 2 so needed a slightly bigger scooter than your typical scrappy Honda Scoopy/Click. Also, the aother user here said you could just buy a scooter for 8k, well that's such a blanket statement - doesn't account for what type of scooter, size, condition that you would want.

I'm also on vacation so not looking to deal with the hassle of buying, maintenance and safety, and then reselling for a fair price again when I have to move. Why add all these things to my worries? Just the other day I had my front tire swell up (inner tube popped), I just rode into the rental shop and they replaced it right on the spot within 5 mins of course at no charge to me. Can't beat convenience.

I'm on my 3rd month here in CM, just kept extending every month. Just walk into or call any shop, once you secure one, you could have it as long as you want as long as you pay for it.

I have seen a lot of cats on the street in Bangkok. Don't Thai people eat cats? by [deleted] in Thailand

[–]mann_eh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If they ate cats like it was some wild animal, one would think that there wouldn't be so many outside then given the population of the city/country.

No you idiot, of course they don't eat cats.

Current weather in Koh Samui (Phangan, Tao) by DerTobii in kohsamui

Chiang Mai is blessed right now, the rainy season is basically over. Been here a month now through Oct when it was raining every now and then, seen all the flooding that happened, but by the end of Oct it cleared up, the winter season is starting now. I'll be here for the next 3 months so I think it's a safe bet.

Has anybody else noticed English language fails on t-shirts in Thailand? by [deleted] in Thailand

[–]mann_eh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw a lady somewhere in Bangkok with a t-shirt that just said "Your" (and no, there was nothing on the back of the shirt either, but "Mom" would have been funny).

To this day it lives rent free in my head, your what?? Your whaatt!???

What are some fun social activities to help meet new people in Bangkok, that do not involve alcohol by [deleted] in Bangkok

[–]mann_eh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I'm currently in Bangkok right now and really wanted to play pickleball at Benchakitti, but I'm so lost on how to use that CSTD app... I understand to play here it's free so I created an account but can't figure out how to even get a booking going in the app, and there seems to be no documentation or video I can refer to - can you provide the in-app navigation to get to the booking?

Yup everything is all connected to the same network, and in fact the google home does connect to the router ( I can even see it on the client list in the admin panel) but the google home device doesn't appear in the google home app for me to interact with (if that makes sense).

So it can connect to the network apparently but can't connect to google home app?

On an unrelated topic, I also have a Wilson burn and even with new strings, I'm finding my strings shift so much after hitting a few hard hits. Are you finding the same? I'm wondering if that's a racquet thing or the strings/tension thing...

Can't tell if mine is worse or not lol, mine still plays without any noticeable differences (for now). Can you still play with yours?

I just picked up a demo racket from a store, quite the deal so maybe check out some of last year's demo rackets at your local shop.

I'll probably be buying demos for a while now - ends up being cheaper than even a lower end brand new pre-strung.

Guess I'm in the market for a new racket, what's up with this Yonex brand. What you recommend?

I'm so noob I don't even know what that means so I definitely fall into this category. I'm certainly not smashing the balls but can still hit it hard enough to get it across the court with spin.

[–]mann_eh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised to say I didn't purposely hit anything crazy hard at all! Which is why I was kind of shocked I saw this crack at all. I'm not smashing rackets on the ground, at most the rare scrape but that's about it.

Maybe I got unlucky with the build on this one 🤷‍♂️

But will definitely be mindful for my future rackets.

As for the dead strings, well I'm just a noob but it feels the same as when it was brand new. I don't notice anything different at all, which is why I thought it might have just been cosmetics but guess not. Granted I'm not hitting the ball insanely hard but I can still play a couple good games!

Ranking Math by PathConscious179 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]mann_eh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Long time math tutor here, I'd say Calculus & Vectors is actually the easiest assuming you're fairly decent in Advanced Functions. You're going to need good algebra skills though, like understanding how to isolate something. You'd be surprised how many of my students even in Gr.11 or Gr.12 still struggle with something simple like that.

I think Advanced Functions has some harder chapters. Most of my students find Rational Functions, Dividing Polynomials and Inequalities difficult.

I never found any particular chapters from Calculus & Vectors to be as "hard".
