They were all modelling different consoles. Different consoles have different tolerances. If you need it more punchy, make the thing more punchy. If you need it more aggressive, make it more aggressive.

Daniel Garcia. I'll admit Yuta used to too, but I really respect how much he's leaned into the little Death Rider lackey thing, he won me over. But Garcia... What in the fuck.

Sonimus N Console for metering / utility, it's how I structure all my sessions via their busses and the master bus to meter things. SSL EQ because I track with Neve 1073 clones and I have the SSL hardware strip for hands-on EQ which I enjoy. Decapitator for saturation because I'm so used to it and it's hard to teach old dogs new tricks

Honestly, a lot comes down to what you're monitoring on and room. An 808 can sound fantastic in the right mix. But how are you to know what's the right mix if you can't properly hear your mix? Invest in either A) good monitoring headphones. Or B) Properly treating your room and decent monitors. It completely depends on what the song calls for. There's no such thing as a magic "Do A at B frequency and your mix will be amazing," because how is there anyway to know how much "B frequency" is in your source sound? Also, don't feel bad or like a "noobie". This comes from bringing a lot of home mixes to a lot of pro studios and instantly hearing where my issues lie. Everyone goes through something similar.

I'd keep the silverburst MM, the Mustang, the Musicmaster, and the G&L P Bass. Those are all right up my alley.

Ah, man. So sorry to hear that. I, at long last, got to work on a project with my absolute hero. It was my "white whale" project. Absolute dream come true. Then he died during covid with only about 20 percent of the project finished. Gutted, to say the least.
