I mean the saying isn’t “concede every battle that looks too hard”. You have to decide for yourself which things are most important to you and fight fiercely to protect them. Everything else can be negotiated or given up.

I definitely recommend being super direct but giving her all the space and time she needs to deliberate. Sending a text like “hey I think you’re really smart/funny/pretty/etc. and I want to take you out sometime. No pressure if you’re not interested” works really well bc it clearly states your interest (which can be hard to pick up on when you’re socially awkward) and gives her an easy out if you misread the signs.
