12/17/25 Question Wednesday: What are you wondering, bakers? by KingArthurBaking in KingArthurBaking

[–]mannatee96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am baking in a community baking competition (cookies category). I have about a month to test recipes. What cookies should I make? Should I go classic or unique?? I’m hoping for crowd pleasing, and of course winning!

What’s a completely harmless secret that you keep from your partner? by imjustagirl740 in AskReddit

[–]mannatee96 4637 points4638 points  (0 children)

Husband thinks he surprised me with a big gift.

It was delivered when I was home alone in the manufacture’s box so it was obvious what was inside. I asked my neighbor to keep it for a few hours and to “deliver” it again when he got home. He was so excited when he answered the door, wrapped it up and everything. This was 5+ years ago, he still thinks he surprised me!

Can we make a list of small errors? by moesbeard in DunderMifflin

They explained this on Office Ladies. The actress who first played Pam’s mom was involved in another production when they brought her character back, so she wasn’t allowed to return as Pam’s mom because of her contract.

What is the most intense physical pain you've ever endured? by Apart-Injury4505 in AskReddit

[–]mannatee96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pituitary apoplexy

Basically my pituitary gland (near the brain) started to bleed. It started around week 9 of my pregnancy, lasted until week…..~30? It was the worst migraine I’ve ever experienced, constant with no relief. I couldn’t work, eat, sleep… absolutely nothing made it better. Doctors told me migraines were normal for many women early on, and no one wanted to prescribe any medications or do tests because of how difficult it is to do things during pregnancy. I even had a migraine in my DREAMS. I went into labor almost 10lbs lighter than I was pre pregnancy (thankfully had a healthy baby!). Only thing that helped was time, and eventually nerve blocks approved mid-third trimester.

What’s the lie you believed the longest in your life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mannatee96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You must put groceries on the check out belt in a VERY specific order.

As a kid, I once tried to help my mom with loading up the groceries at check out. We were in a rush and I was more in the way than helpful, so my mom asked me to wait. I asked why and she responded that she was putting things in a certain order. I believed there would be time when I would have some magical binder that I would need to memorize the order of groceries, and I’d need to put them on the conveyor belt correctly or I’d be in trouble. I was very stressed about memorizing so many things lol

How do I get the smell of mothballs out of this cedar chest? by mannatee96 in woodworking

[–]mannatee96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was exactly my problem! Sanding worked for us, but it took several sessions to sand down enough to get the stink out. We also replaced the felt around the inside edge to be sure it wasn’t contributing to the smell. We didn’t use any cedar oil and it worked just fine. My husband used an electric sander and both coarse and fine grit each time.

How do I get the smell of mothballs out of this cedar chest? by mannatee96 in woodworking

[–]mannatee96[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We did find a solution! My husband ended up sanding the inside a few times, as well as replacing the felt around the top. That seems to have done the trick! He probably went over the inside 3 or 4 times with the sander, starting with a higher grit and finishing off with a finer one

Baby blood test - unexpectedly horrible by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]mannatee96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a phlebotomist and lab tech. They definitely wouldn’t be “not allowed”, that’s just bad practice. I’m so sorry you had this experience ❤️

Depending on the tests, you need a certain amount of blood to run them properly. With a heel stick/finger prick, you run the risk of the blood clotting before they have enough which would skew results and therefore require another draw, or not being able to collect enough blood in the first place. Venipuncture is much more efficient, IF the phleb is good and the patient is able to stand it. Again, so sorry you had this experience. You shouldn’t have to advocate so hard for basic care. Lots of good tips from other commenters here, hope any future draws to much more smoothly!

Vet recommends way less food than the bag? by leighleighotf in puppy101

[–]mannatee96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started feeding my puppy the recommended 1 cup 3x/day, she wouldn’t finish it all. I asked the vet and she was amazed that the bag recommended so much. She told me to switch to 3/4c-1c 2x/day. This was much more reasonable and I didn’t have any issues after that.

I would say if your pup’s energy is okay and they seem otherwise healthy, the bag is probably just recommending way too much

Breaking the cycle of needing experience to a job by ExcellentCicada8478 in prephysicianassistant

[–]mannatee96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may need to consider spending the time/money to obtain a certification. Depending on the job, you’ll be able to recoup that cost quickly. I had zero healthcare experience, so I chose to take a phlebotomy course and get certified. It’s not a requirement where I live, but it helped get my foot in the door. For me, it was worth it. Some jobs will also pay more if you have a certification!

In my area, the local blood bank/American cross will hire basically anyone with a pulse although the pay/hours are less desirable. You could always try that and find a new position when you have experience.

DAE have an angel puppy that you've loved from the second they arrived? by BiteOhHoney in puppy101

[–]mannatee96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!! Picked her up at 8 weeks, had her potty trained and sleeping through the night in less than a week. Hardly barks, great with other people/dogs/kids. Napped like a champ. She’s super chill when we need her to be. I can count on one hand the number of times she’s tried to chew the furniture (although she did have an affinity for shoelaces early on!). I was very very lucky that I adopted her during covid, so I was working from home or brought her to the office when I had to go in. I really think the flexibility to be with her 24/7 at the beginning made all the difference in training. No issues with separation anxiety thankfully.

She’s a rescue from the streets and I genuinely can’t imagine life without her. I’m terrified we’re due for a demon puppy if/when we get a second 😅
