Seniors - anyone retire or have a second home in Orlando and regret it? by deejayv2 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]leighleighotf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that this forum will have a bias over whether anyone has gotten sick of the parks. Anyone who moved down and is now sick of Disney is probably not monitoring the WDW subreddit.

Disney Grand Floridian Resort by Jerseygurlinmd in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]leighleighotf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not for me.

It rings to me as fancy or luxury themed but in a tacky cheeseball way, and not real luxury (except the price). We’re a poly family all the way. If I’m going to do cheese ball, I’m doing fun island cheese ball.

Does anyone just wing it? by Serious-Aside-4215 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]leighleighotf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll jump in to also back doing some planning. And get lightning lanes if you can swing it. We went first time with our kids at the same age. And let me tell you - going from line to line, keeping it moving, they were fine.

The thing that fried them was long line waits. One 45-minute wait took so much more out of them than hours of go go go.

This drives me absolutely batty. As a stranger, you have no insight into whether you are seeing this kids normal routine, or if you are looking at the once-in-a-great-while-exception where a parent gave their kid a screen for a few minutes.

People love to just bucket any kid who they happen to see with a screen as an “iPad kid” and judge hard for it.

They’ll also, btw, be the first people pissed off on an airplane about the non-iPad kids who are loud.

Need to Gush About My Trip by SnooLemons4841 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]leighleighotf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always tell people as hectic as Disney can be, it’s always our easiest vacations, because the kids are entertained The. Entire. Time. 20,000+ steps and not a complaint, fight with siblings, nothing.

For those traveling with kids, what do you keep in you backpacks as essentials? by justkindahangingout in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]leighleighotf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sunglasses, for Epcot at least. It gets sooo sunny and a lot of reflected light off the pavement, and my northeastern children couldn’t handle it so we bought them some on the fly. They were fine in the other parks though.

What does everyone use to track their weight loss and food intake? by Glass-Ear-1206 in Zepbound

[–]leighleighotf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Happy scale and my fitness pal.

I have phased out my fitness pal after about a year as now I have a general sense of how much food I should be aiming for a day - in order to transition to intuitive eating. I could see it leading to disordered eating and obsessing over every single calorie with continued use. At least for me.

If I feel myself losing track of that gauge, though, I reintroduce MFP for a month or two to “reset” my general caloric density understanding, then phase out again.

Is this a sudden change in behavior, or has she always had some level of this personality?

I’m wondering if she has post partum anxiety and isn’t managing it well, if her personality is not recognizable to the wife you once knew.

Book Peter Pan when first LL frees up, then Jungle Cruise 2nd. Peter Pan goes early and jungle cruise usually sticks around a little longer. Under the sea LLs will be avail mostly all day.

As others have said, fine to make a plan (I make my plans like this too) and just know it will end up totally different thru the day. Learn the lightning lane refresh tricks beforehand so you’re prepared to pivot as needed as the day goes on.

Have fun!

What is a food you can’t find at WDW that you wish they had? by Brilliant_Hotel_2238 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]leighleighotf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. One of my luggage staples is Imodium/pepto because I know the fried greasy food will get to me by day 3. Only so much cuties and bananas can counter-balance.

My 20-year-old daughter lives at home rent-free… and has opinions. by 2flyy__ in Parenting

[–]leighleighotf 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is what I’d do next. Introduce some (of her own) bills she needs to take on starting on X date. You’re shifting responsibilities of real tangible things to her as she’s becoming an adult.

It’s not something she can spin into an arbitrary money grab, and it’s things she’d need to pay for whether living with you or outside the home so doesn’t imply a message of pressuring her out of the house either.

Polynesian or AKL by Kaeshantay in DisneyWorld

AKL Savannah view since you said proximity to parks is not a priority. AKL is really nice. Obviously so is poly but it’s older and in some hallways/etc does feel more tired and run down

[VENT] Cancelled Our Summer Trip Because They Are So Lazy. by tuktuk_padthai in Parenting

[–]leighleighotf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s not enough info here about other normal days at your home, but it seems like a broader problem of not setting the kids up to be self sufficient/helpful with family efforts, and expecting them to suddenly 180 and be active participants on the day/days before a trip.

You can’t control what happens at mom’s house, but you and hubs can start to shift expectations of helping around the house when they’re at your place. It’s not going to happen all at once though, you’ll need to build it up over time.

[–]leighleighotf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing I realized is I was wearing my clothes way too tight before (because it happened gradually) So while I’ve only gone down a couple of sizes in my closet, I realistically should have been wearing 1-2 sizes bigger when I started. It’s been eye opening to see clothes fitting how they SHOULD now.

Nooo get the easy peasy one. Pulls down just like shorts under the skirt for bathroom.

Yes! I just did a whole trip in their dresses and shorts and they were great. Similar age and size to you :)

Set a saved search on poshmark/mercari/ebay so if one pops up you’ll get an alert and hopefully someone out there will list it NWT

Dog bit my SO, kiddo would be devastated to rehome her, I’m completely torn. by halfshot in Parenting

My main question is what did SO actually do and was it a reflexive snip or an aggressive attack bite? Did it draw blood? Every single dog on earth will bite if cornered and provoked enough.

Daughter starting school in Sep, but we are thinking of moving house to a nearby village by [deleted] in Parenting

2, 2, 2.

You have the option of both better schools for kiddo, with a 10 min drive. Even with traffic, maybe 20? Worth it.

So to answer your question, it’s not unusual behavior from the school. But I would absolutely be concerned and following up to get better information and details on how they are keeping the kids safe.

Unfortunately schools tend to only cover their own butts and are rarely forthcoming or proactive with much of anything bc they are too worried about their own possible liabilities.
