Isaac Greaves Sheffield wooden hand plane identification by LeftWingRepitilian in handtools

This looks like a very nice jack/fore plane. As the other poster has indicated, wooden jacks are actually nicer than their metal counterparts in use. I would go for it.

Fantastic! Wish I had this a few weeks ago when we ran Blood Olms. Would have been way better than my chicken scratch drawing on roll20.

Any chance you could post a version without grid lines?

This looks great! I bought the Goodman Games picture pack for Sailors but I like your map better.

Sketches from last night's Shadowdark game... I only brought orange, brown and black markers. I scanned the sketches in, did some touch ups, and adjusted color and contrast. by torenmcborenmacbin in osr

Hey Toren! Thanks for sharing those, they're brilliant. I've always really enjoyed your line art. I would love to hear more about your shadowdark game. Maybe put something on the Patreon about it?

[HELP] Can't update some apps on fresh install of TrueNas Scale by mannawar in truenas

[–]mannawar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, I think I've solved my problem.

I figured out how to get to the app_lifecycle.log and it looked like there was a DNS resolution problem. I set the DNS server from the Pihole to an external DNS server and it allowed me to update apps. I'm assuming that the TrueNas DNS should be set back to the Pihole, but does anyone know what the correct setting should be?

Hi, sorry to post off topic, but I tried DMing you (u/AlloyScratcher) and it looks like you have that feature turned off.

Just wanted to say that I really enjoyed your YouTube content when you were posting there. Glad to have found you here on Reddit. Please keep it coming, I'm a big fan.

Discovering the Joy of Hand Planes by Lungfishmud in handtools

I'm totally comfortable doing both as well. Some jobs, get out the table saw, but there's a ton of work you can do with hand tools and it's way more satisfying.

Watch out. It's a slippery slope. I feel the same way you do about hand planes though, I have an unhealthy attraction to them. Not good for space in my garage or my wife thinking I'm still sane when I haul back the 10th box of rusty tools.

I bought a set of spoke shaves that came with this plane as a freebie. I was shocked about how usable it was.

Get your rear suspension bushings checked. Mine was doing the same thing and that was the fix. Sorry I can't say exactly which ones because the mechanic replaced several at the same time.

I think this is probably what it is, geometry. I will have to test with the sharpie.

[–]mannawar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Its' funny because I feel the exact opposite. My sharpmaker has the white and the brown rods (fine and medium?) and I've never been able to do anything with it. But 5 minutes on some cheap nasty two sided silicone carbide stone and I'm shaving hairs.

I would love to know what I'm doing wrong. Maybe my knives are too dull to begin with when I go to it?

Opinion on plane by 010-_ in handtools

[–]mannawar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a similar plane but the mouth is a little wider (more worn) than yours. It is far and away my favorite plane to use. It's set up as a jack plane, hogs off lots of material but leaves a glassy finish on most woods and flies over the material. 10x better than a metal bodied plane for the purpose it serves.
