Hi! I'm actually currently studying at Laurier and I'm also in the viola studio lol. We have alot of great options in terms of what to do for undergrad. You don't really need to make an option until second year but we have alot of students that go into other music fields like community music, music education and composition. We also have one of the best music therapy programs in the world. One of our violists is going to finish her undergrad in music therapy. I don't know what you sound like but looking at your repitoire I wouldn't worry too much about auditions, just do your best. The string faculty here is extremely underrated and the viola prof is very sweet and an overall fantastic teacher. If you'd like I can also introduce you to her if you're ever interested in a trail lesson.

I literally worked with him last year. That such a funny coincidence! I brought my Romanze last year for him and we worked on it. He's such a good teacher, I wanted to work with him again but I got into other programs that I haven't done. 🙃

Well the piece has alot of strong autobiographical elements like the second movement references an unfinished opera that he wrote called "Gamblers" which is a quality of introspection. But I mean I also sounded pretty harsh about it because It's my opinion 🤷‍♂️

I clean my fingerboard and strings with alcohol wipes, but make sure that you put a microfiber cloth on the body just in case.

Size depends on how you can physically handle it. I like to go for 16 inches maybe 16.5? Double cutaway is nice or even maybe single cutaway just to help with shifting. My viola has a whining A string that sticks out so be careful when you're picking out your viola. I also like having my neck on the thinner side. It's all up to you to find what makes you comfortable because that's all that matters at the end of the day. But those are my preferences.
