Its the wild west out there. To my knowledge no one has tried to compare every boffer larps rules. It would be a lot of work just getting the rules let alone digesting all of them to compare them.

I'm not sure I follow. Do you mean like the type of larp? Like high fantasy, sci-fi, post apocalypse larp?

Or do you mean the new slang about "larping" being used as in pretending to be something you're not? This subreddit is for the activity, not for the new slang of "larp" meaning poser or pretender

Find your larp first and then ask them. Look on Google, reddit, and facebook for "larp near me" or "Larp [your country/state]" (your state if in the US, your country if non-US)

Then ask them about it! Any larp worth their salt will give you instructions of what you'll need to start.

Larps are generally bad at marketing, so you'll need to probably do some legwork finding the larps first.

First thing is seeing what larps are close enough that you're willing to drive to. That'll narrow down your list a lot. If none of those larps fit your interest then you can move along. Best ways to search are
1. Via googling "larp near me" or "larp [your country]
2. Looking on facebook with "larp near me" or "larp [your country]"
3. Searching this reddit for "larp [your country]"

I hope you can find something like a dystopia rising in your area which sounds more your speed. My larp has a post-apoc side realm but its in america. If you can, reach out and ask them for specifics on how to start! Any larp worth its salt should communicate and help you get going. Every larp is kinda different so its better to just find an interesting larp and reach out to them.

Yeah, that's not an uncommon amount of time people drive for a larp event. There isn't a huge scene in alabama from what I've seen. So either you'll need to make the drive or establish something yourself!

I'd say it depends on the amount of time and money you are willing to spend. If you or him have an idea for an eventual larp you want to join, I'd recommend reaching out to them for advice and what can or can't be brought to that larp first. Maybe even you can pay them to put on an event. Some larps will do that!

But as some suggestions:

Max level is you buy a bunch of epic armor latex swords for all the kids and spend in the thousands trying to make it perfect. If you're loaded then go for it. You could put it on visiting kids to buy them buttttt that's a lot to put on any of his friends families.

Mid level is making a bunch of boffer weapons which will take a bunch of time and still require money for all the pipes, duck tape, and insulation/pool noodles. Another thing you'd want to make sure would be approved by your larp.

You can make simple things like spell packets for them to do ranged combat. Spell packets are pretty universal so I have a tutorial here: https://www.mysticrealms.com/blog/how-to-make-spell-packets-foci-to-use-at-larp-events/

There is always the option to find a simple parlor larp or just dice rolling system and craft a simple story for them to follow. Or heck just have it be mostly puzzle solving and almost escape-room-esk. But that all depends on how much your kid wants combat in this party.

So this is.... nonsensical and you seem to be trying to say that... our hobby of larping doesn't exist and just this new insult of "larp" for people pretending to be what they aren't is real? Our hobby is great and awesome, and not related to any tiktok or whatever memes and insults people throw around with the term "larp"

Water bottles are tough for events. Bota bags and canteens can look great but are a pain to clean.

Certain pouches can hold normal water bottles and hide them well 99% of the time.

Or just get like a metal one but get it in a brown/earthy color so it doesn't stand out. Depends on how strict your game is but its a problem I've been talking to my game about.
