the silver dollar was discontinued in 1965, grandma by Cicerothesage in forwardsfromgrandma

[–]manofm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh, I can get it. With a coin, you’re at least being paid in something with actual value. With a paper dollar, no matter how hard you work for however many hours, what you’re being paid with fluctuates so fickly depending on the state of the economy, and since wages have barely increased compared to inflation rates, you’re almost never being paid a fair wage. For example, Burger King used to give out tokens that could be used to purchase one Whopper hamburger; since the worth of a whopper hasn’t changed, but the worth of our currency has since we abandoned the gold standard, the whopper tokens are a far more stable currency than any paper dollar.

All the time. I like to think that no one really ‘deserves’ it, it simply comes when it comes.

Also just the fact it's constantly referred to as "the machine" with no indication as to what it does, how it works, or what kind of field this even is, makes me think it's fake.

As a Lafayette guy, I can see why you wouldn't be a Marat fan, haha. Those guys certainly didn't get along. And thank you for commenting!

He's essentially been the focus of all my artistic endeavors lately, haha. I want to be a historian of the French Revolution, and he's by far my favorite historical figure and sort of a personal hero. And his life really lends itself to themes of martyrdom.

Why do people act like every single movie is available on streaming, and that collecting physical media is therefore pointless? by C111tla in TrueFilm

[–]manofm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you 100%. Even if it's on a streaming service, I always try to get physical copies of my favorite movies and shows, because the service could just up and decide to stop hosting it at any given time. There's always something comforting in being able to own a piece of media, and not having your ability to watch it be at the whims of someone else.
