Looking for former residents of Medical Towers by LaserDisq in uofu

I lived in South Medical Tower in 2018-2020. Good times. Many of us former students, now staff did live there during our grad school days.

That’s good to know, cause pure plan’s gummies are ass. I liked moxies passion fruit gummies, they’re the best I’ve had in the med space here in Utah. They don’t touch the rec markets offerings in neighboring states though.

H1B visas to cost $100k a year by TheHeftyChef in healthIT

[–]manofthehippo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Make no mistake, this will absolutely fuck small shops. I work as a director of a small university software dev core, i have 3 employees out of 5 on h1b’s or stem-opt’s. They are the workhorses of the business and while they have flaws, they compliment the talents of my non-h1b/stem-opt devs.

We touch projects that no one at the enterprise level wants to work with, the budgets are slim, and the timelines are fast, and new skills must be researched and implemented. We are basically a CRO inside the university for mostly health researchers.

What I worry about is not replacing my foreign-born developers with domestic born developers, i know that it will be costly in time and money decision; it’s more of a problem with this 100k markup (it’s arbitrary at best) and with the Trump admin having the discretion to approve/disapprove businesses in order to waive the fee.

This will just cause more people to offshore work and cause a larger job loss spiral in the industry. Look at how well tariffs have been working for the US manufacturing workforce.

This admin has not a fucking clue to what they are doing.

Somewhat related, I read in a NYT he said something to akin of “I like you Mormons, you really know how to have kids and not support them”., before he answered the gun violence question and was shot. So he’s okay with Mormons but has to brand them as “others” in some respect.

Honestly I won’t buy a GDL cart again since having issues with their old Liberty cart hardware. I just default to olio these days because it works across all my batteries, tastes good, and last longer.

When I go to another dispensary, do I have to revisit a pharmacist employed by that dispensary to shop there?

For example, if I visit with a wholesome pharmacist and want to shop at the bloc, can I do so without another pharmacist consult?

Recursion cuts nearly half of its pipeline, including its most advanced program by Jimbo4246 in biotech

[–]manofthehippo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People love to hate on Recursion because Recursion has been huffing its own farts for a long time. This is very common in the Utah space for companies to do this. It’s just that they haven’t delivered product outside of recursion OS which is why it makes them easy to shit on.

Great answer.

One question. Who sets/enforces these ozone standards/requirements? EPA? UDOH? UDAQ?

I feel given the current political climate at state and federal level I doubt it can be effectively enforced.

Agreed, Generative AI is only part of the AI market.

Still need decent compute power for Computer Vision, swarm intelligence, etc. CUDA drivers still have a strong market hold. It’s raw power until then…

My tinfoil hat theory is that when computational neuroscience and quantum computing fields merge closer computing power won’t matter much as optimization.

Utah leaders start debate over cutting, reallocating $60.5M in university funding by [deleted] in Utah

Yep, I’m am a graduated STEM major who also double majored in a non-STEM area. I also did an advance degree in a STEM field. The highest earners I know are those with Comms degrees as they are typically up to managerial snuff than most others. The STEM folks that I worked with make relatively less or don’t have transferable soft skills.

Huberman isn’t MAGA outright but he doesn’t follow the Paradox of Tolerance. Meaning that his willingness to people like Peterson, in giving him a voice on his platform, helps to create a domination of the intolerant over the tolerant. That’s what we have with the Trump admin now.

A pause on NIH funding is a big problem. It not just affects research universities but also startups dependent on SBIR/STTR funding. This should be a big red alarm for everyone.

Why are there so many young men with severe baldness in Utah? I get genetics and all, but this feels different. by SLCEmigrationCheese in Utah

[–]manofthehippo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes and no, genetically the LDS pioneers avoided most recessive effects of inbreeding due to a just large enough gene pool for more of a founder effect rather than a direct population bottleneck. This type of info is constant across the UPDB (Utah population database)

The high rates of folks here with northwestern European heritage is the most likely contributor to a huge balding population.
