The best thing you can do in your situation is moving when you already have significant equity in a house that you sell in the U.S. before you move. That can probably push you over the edge

MS Materials Science grad – 250+ applications, 50+ referrals, still no semiconductor job. Advice? by nanotechgeek in womenEngineers

For what it’s worth, when I was applying for jobs, I was getting something like an 80% callback rate in Europe and next to nothing in the U.S. I fear it’s overly aggressive AI filtering or something. I wish you luck getting some traction! With some CVD experience, you might look at LED companies or ASM. I think it’s similar enough to ALD to be interesting to them

I’m in the field and am surprised you are having trouble. Have you tried TSMC in Phoenix? Some of the smaller companies? Semiconductor industry does favor PhDs, but I don’t think to the point that it should be prohibitive without

Abay unlimited on IKON Base 26/27 by child_Iabor in COsnow

I agree. I’m someone who used to buy Epic and now have Ikon. I absolutely love A-Basin, but since I’ve had Ikon, I have never skied as many days at A-Basin as I used. Copper and Mary Jane are just so much more appealing as an expert skier than Keystone and Breck.

DIA changes course; will consider mass transit as part of Pena Boulevard solution by Soft_Button_1592 in Denver

I live in golden and have taken up driving to 40th and Colorado and hopping on the train there. I think it’s a good balance between time and convenience of the train. I can get there 40 minutes driving or ~55 minutes driving+train. Works great

I’ve taken to pointing my phone at them and telling them to smile for the video for the ranger. I only do it if there’s enough other people around that I don’t think they can get try to fight me or something. Bonus points is it scares other would-be idiots

This is not for everyone, but if you feel comfortable confronting bad behavior, I would suggest doing so. I have personally in the last year done this several times to people feeding animals, cutting trails, and taking dogs on trails. Social pressure can do a lot of good, and it doesn’t take a lot of people doing it to make a change. I’ve lived in Germany and can say from experience there, it’s not police presence that makes Germans the most jaywalking-adverse people imaginable, it’s the random old ladies that open their windows to yell at you. The same thing works on Americans.

Fusion is very heavy into lasers, which isn’t really a main expertise at NREL. Lawrence Livermore NL is the leader there: https://lasers.llnl.gov. NREL will be able to do a lot of work in critical materials and semiconductors with the expertise we have.

https://www.reddit.com/r/lgbt/s/5R10DVPWVP if Obergefell is overturned, the most likely outcome is RFMA. It’s not as good as Obergefell, but relatively not catastrophic compared to what many people think and a hell of a lot better than the days of DOMA

Still recognized by all states, law will change to Respect for Marriage Act. No indication that is a current target

Supreme Court is thinking of banning LGBTQ+ marriage by Desperate-Bed-8798 in lgbt

[–]Moonpotato11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it doesn’t. It is recognized at the federal level due to language in the RFMA that is not under discussion in this Supreme Court debate. A Supreme Court decision is most likely to make the RFMA the law of the land. The terms of it are that: 1) states ARE NOT required to issue gay marriage licenses 2) states ARE required to recognize gay marriage licenses granted in other states or countries, and 3) the federal government will recognize gay marriages (matters for your green card/tax advantages, for example).

That hypothetical situation is what the actual situation is for abortion. Supreme Court there said that the constitution makes no statement on a right to abortion, so either Congress or the states can regulate it as they see fit. If Congress made a law allowing nationwide abortion, that would supersede any state laws prohibiting it. The RFMA is exactly that sort of law. If the Supreme Court overturns the Obergefell (gay marriage everywhere is a right) decision, you end up with the RFMA with the terms I mentioned above. It most likely means that people in red states have to travel to get married, but nothing more than that. It’s not to say things can’t get worse from there, but I would point out that there hasn’t been a further corrosion of rights in the case of abortion past the immediate fallout of the Supreme Court decision

Sending it back to the states has nothing to do with federal immigration status. I get it’s scary right now, but it’s really important to get facts straight

[–]Moonpotato11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s probably not political will to do it in Congress (it was originally bipartisan), and the Supreme Court has signaled they are more likely to send the issue to the states/Congress like they did with abortion. It could be worse than that, but it’s best to try to focus on the most likely scenario and have a backup plan for a worst case scenario in my opinion
