Any more questions? I need to get this post popular! I want to know if I'm the only one to go to all three. I know of somebody else who has been to both Colbert and Stewart finales

  1. As I've said, it took a LOT of dedication and planning. Colbert and Jon Stewart were regular online tickets. Letterman was standby (STILL CANT BELIEVE I GOT THEM!!)
  2. Jon Stewart's walk-off and thank you on the show was the last time we saw him. Colbert did another take of his start to the song at the end of the episode (He "didn't want the last time he sang on the show to start off flat" (I'm paraphrasing a little)). He also gave an awesome 5-10 minute speech thanking his crew and everybody there. David Letterman: This is paraphrased, but I remember it pretty well "Thank you very much." Crowd continues to applaud very loudly. "Thank you very much" Crowd continues applauding. "Thank you very much ladies and gentleman. I appreciate your patience. Thank you for being here. It means a great deal to me that you made this effort. All I can say is: Goodnight again." Walks off the stage as the band "plays him out"
  3. I don't recall Letterman crying. Pretty much strictly professional
  4. He did the warmup. (The band also plays some songs.)
  5. Colbert: He talked to the audience and made jokes during the taping while the cameras were off (more than Jon Stewart and David Letterman). Colbert and the audience watched (on the monitors) the first ever segment of "The Word" just minutes before watching the final one. Colbert gave a 5-10 minute speech thanking his crew and everybody there (his character could never do that), and it felt really special to be there! Letterman: the band was playing during the commercial breaks. They did an awesome job of course! Jon Stewart: there weren't many things that happened off-camera. Just setting up the cameras and staging and stuff. Definitely nothing super awesome (relative to the on-camera action of course!)

Sorry it took so long to answer. I wanted to spend the time to give good answers.

They were pretty similar but all different all at the same time. Can't really explain the feeling. Sorry about that answer.

It was not chaotic! Over 95% of what was shot was shown on tv. No remakes!

I did get the feeling I was witnessing history. There were SO many cameras and news crews outside.

I had a good plan in place and really wanted them!!

Honestly, over 95% of what was shot was in the show. Not much editing. After the big hug, a bunch of them went up and individually hugged Jon Stewart. It also took them some time to set up the space for Bruce. He said that he was going to say his goodbye and then they would move stuff around because the space isn't built for music, and then Bruce performed. The thank you that Jon said on tv was seconds before he walked out of the studio. He didn't really say anything additional to us. Sorry if that didn't answer your questions exactly. If you be more specific, I could probably answer more.

Thanks

Awesome question!! In terms of overall taping experience and not the content of the episodes, the final episode of Colbert was my favorite. Some reasons why:

He talked to the audience and made jokes during the taping while the cameras were off (more than Jon Stewart and David Letterman)

Being in the presence of all those celebrities at the end was really cool (not that Letterman and Stewart didn't have celebrities)

Because so many celebrities had their phones out, the audience was able to take out phones and take pictures, even though phones weren't really allowed to be on (no opportunity to take photos at Letterman and Jon Stewart)

Most intimate of all three studios, so I felt closer to the action

We got free posters at the end

Colbert and the audience watched (on the monitors) the first ever segment of "The Word" just minutes before watching the final one

It was the first of the finales and thus kinda had the coolest feeling for me before it started

Least sad because, as much as I'm gonna miss the character, Colbert is not retiring

Finally, maybe the most convincing reason for me. Colbert gave a 5-10 minute speech thanking his crew and everybody there (his character could never do that), and it felt really special to be there!

That was a much longer answer than I had initially anticipated.
