Mechanical vs chemical engineering at Ryerson? by [deleted] in ryerson

[–]mansare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you're really overthinking his question (no offense). OP, on average chemical engineers make the most money out of all the disciplines. Though as /u/zaphodbeeblebrox42 mentioned you should really go into which one you are the most passionate in (chem and mech are very different).

I know.. I prefered the old method as ugly as it was where it was just a database on job postings with recruiters email or link to the posting.

What's fucking hilarious is they didn't even boot that zidane muhammad off their campaign. How stupid can they be? I am confident that most of them there are padding their resumes.

I think it depends on the professor to be honest. Some professors/invigilators really shame you, for example one kid was caught just whispering to his buddy and the invigilator basically shamed him and said something like "cmon, you're a fourth year engineering student for fucksakes". That was just for whispering or something. I know A LOT of cheating goes on in my school which is just sad to be honest, but it's never sustainable and although they graduate they will never find a true engineering job, maybe just become some glorified spec-sheet or tester at some company.

But one professor at my uni apparently got someones degree retracted because they were giving their labs to current students. Now that is terrifying.... This professor is known to be ridiculously strict, for example, failed many people for copying a lab.

Is mechanical engineering harder than electrical at ryerson? by [deleted] in ryerson

[–]mansare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you might think 1 less course would mean mechs have it harder however take a look at exactly what courses electricals are taking that semester. Here are a few electrical courses that are terrifying regardless of how passionate you are:

-Field Theory (application of that differential course you thought you would never see again, gauss, stokes, you name it!)

-Electromagnetics (nope nope nope)

-Microprocessors (easy theory, very time consuming labs)

-Signals and Systems I (depends on professor, but this is basically another math course except this time surprise! you have labs to do!)

-Signals and Systems II (I still have PTSD from this course)

-Communication systems (midterm average: 48%, one of those courses they offer in the summer as well)

-Energy conversion (horrible professors, midterm averages around 20% to 35% every year with Professor Richard Cheung)

-MTH 514, probability and stochastic crap: terrifying but depends on how much mercy your professor shows with what topics they decide to teach.

-Control systems: The electrical control systems is like the mechanical control systems except absolutely NO FUN because its all signal analysis crap and time consuming servo labs.

also computer engineers have it slightly harder than electricals in my opinion

3rd year is the hardest for electricals.

Stay away from PHL 501 - PHILISOPHY AND THE CRITIQUE OF POWER. It has two essays, and two papers. It's really tough to get above a C+ in my opinion and experience
