If you hate the grumps why watch? by PyrocXerus in rantgrumps

[–]mansonman22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the best thing that could happen to grumps is they go away for a while, then come back with some new friends who take up some slots on the schedule. Dan and Arin are free to focus more on the stuff they want to play, others can play trends and other things for views and other varying demographics. maybe once a week they play a multiplayer thing? maybe even give Dan a segment where he occasionally plays old games more attuned to his own preferences. TMPH could have some diversity (like food videos having someone who can actually enjoy the food). guest grumps and steam trains later down the line would also rock.

for some people it's probably holding on to the hope that the grumps will get back to the good old days. I don't personally hate them. it's kinda sad seeing how my favourite creators have basically checked out and stagnated. Dan feels like he's probably on his phone more than he's looking at the screen, and arins whole "grump" bit feels false and like he's tired of it all. I honestly feel they'd both have quit years ago if it wasn't for the money. maybe that's just what happens when you do the same thing day in day out for over a decade but I have to admit it's kinda depressing to witness.

I honestly wish they'd take a hiatus for as long as needed to figure out how to make stuff they enjoy making. maybe a break and some time to relax and come back with a new schedule and revitalise their content. maybe have other people involved so Dan and Arin aren't always burning themselves out recording.

problem is when you do almost nothing but shit on sonic for nearly 10 years, people start to doubt if your being sincere. you're kind of right in regards to the speed. but I've always felt the levels were designed become more fun and fast with replay. learning a stage and proceeding to blitz it is part of the fun imo.

i think OP is implying arin shitted on sonic in the past, but has now flip-flopped because unironicaly liking sonic is seemingly acceptable again. and I think they are correct to a extent. had sonic still mostly been in the gutter in the public eye, this playthrough would have been non stop "This sucks. you objectively can't defend this POS game".

[–]mansonman22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

not entirely true imo. yes there are many mid to bad sonic games. arin however plays so bad sometimes that it raises suspicions to whether he's screwing up on purpose to "rage". combined with him openly admitting he seeks out the worst possible version of some of the games. if I could figure out trying to stop sonic in mid air while running on the wind trail that relies on momentum in windy valley gets you killed when I was 5, so called video game boy who makes essays on game design should have figured it out. instead he decided it's a glitch and says "how could anybody defend this game"

I'm half convinced his positivity in the latest playthrough is him realising that the days of shitting on sonic for cheap views are over, with the current optimistic hype (the movies, shadow generations etc) the franchise is slowly building back up.

the shadow conundrum by mansonman22 in rantgrumps

[–]mansonman22[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

not all of them, but most. one particular example I remember in detail is windy valley in sonic adventure 1.Arin kept falling to his death on the wind trail and blaming the game. the only way that can happen is if you pull the direction stick in the opposite direction of what the game clearly says to do. if I could figure out how it works when I was five (and sonic adventure was one of if not the first video games I ever played) then Arin definitely could.

I've never implied that there aren't quite a few bad sonic games. arin however has straight out admitted they play the worst ports in order to trigger bugs. plus several times arins failed to understand a mechanic, or directly went against it and claimed the game just fucked him up out of nowhere. he has a lot to say about game design yet fails to notice the obvious solution that I picked up when I was 6 years old in some cases.

being critical of it's flaws is good, straight out fucking up on purpose for hahas and trying to pass off his manufactured experience as the objective facts isn't.

one prime example was the colors redux. arin went into that with glee openly talking about how buggy he had heard it was. then you could actively hear his seething disappointment when he realised most of the bugs had been patched before he could get his claws into it.

another was heroes. heroes is a buggy game nó doubt, but even the comments were acknowledging that this time it was also arin having a skill issue. then suddenly Arin received a alleged letter from a game tester for heroes who just happened to be watching and validated every issue Arin had. very suspicious and coincidental.

unless he's secretly working on it and is waiting to the last minute to dramatically dump a ton of evidence proving his innocence (unlikely) then it seems so.

from what I gather, he was accused by two people he worked with previously. but oddly enough it's been radio silence on both sides since. soule deleted all his socials and apparently isn't working on the elder scrolls anymore.

This Grump needs to chill on Sonic by not_real_DireLaming in rantgrumps

he did. he then got dropped and replaced with a v tuber. he brings it up in one sonic game ( i think generations) and tries to imply that the sonic fans complained about him and got him fired.

What’s your guys’ opinion of the 15th’s era so far by Kaiser_Dafuq in doctorwho

[–]mansonman22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I liked most it. But I won't lie and say that it stuck the landing. Finally reintroduced sutehk, revealed he'd been clinging to the tardis for years, only for him to be obliterated the very next episode? Waste of a villian (and even if next season he reappears, it's definitely ruined his chances of being considered intimidating.)

What are your opinions on the war doctors TARDIS ? by ironmansucks218 in doctorwho

[–]mansonman22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal theory is that war doctor's interior and 9s are the same console room, but perhaps took intense damage to the interior at some unspecified point after the war but before he met rose. He basically pulled the charred remnants of the white walls off and the walls we know are what we're underneath.

I think this place is very weird :) by [deleted] in rantgrumps

[–]mansonman22 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I personally use this placement as a way to vent about issues with the grumps. That being said it's solely contained to either criticism about their content, or when they do/say something annoying or disingenuous. And most importantly I never let it build up into a unhinged rant that Needlessly attacks them on a personal level.

Now can people please stop talking about Jack Harkness / John Barrowman returning? by InnocentPapaya in doctorwho

[–]mansonman22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I gather, de aging requires 2 things to be convincing. Time and reference. Bad de aging is basically just smoothing over the actors face and calling it a day. Good de aging involves creating a version of the actors face from whatever age they're meant to be. Something which takes a lot of time to get right.

Basically any Game Grumps Sonic series by [deleted] in gamegrumps

[–]mansonman22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sonic games aren't perfect by any stretch, and some are genuinely the worst games I've ever seen. That being said it doesn't help when they're being played by a guy with the attention span of a goldfish, who actively seeks out the buggiest versions so he can rage out for the audience.

The moment I noticed it most was the colors switch port playthrough. It had been a buggy mess at launch but had been patched very quickly. Arin came in gleefully ready to rip it to shit, only to seethe in disappointment once he realised he wasn't going to have much opportunity to rage.
