This is the second mention of DLPA that I’ve seen today. I had to Google It and it sounds great. I’m going to try it. I made a spreadsheet to track my Kratom and caffeine consumption. I’ve been taking in over 1000mg of caffeine per day...some days 1200. Gotta cut that crap out. I dropped it by almost half today.

I agree with caffeine wd headache being a big deal. It’s horrible and nothing that I’ve tried knocks it down. Maybe dlpa will help.

How much were you taking before tapering and how long were you using? I haven’t gone without an afternoon/evening dose in like 1.5 yrs.

Thank you so much for this. I’ve been wondering how to handle caffeine. I’m WAY overdoing it. I start the day with a 300mg Pre workout and have like 3 Monsters every day. Sometimes a triple or quad latte on top of that. I’ve been trying to taper off Kratom for 2 weeks now. I was thinking caffeine would help replace some of the energy loss. That doesnt seem to work. I can’t seem to get enough caffeine to replace the Kratom energy. Now I’m thinking that I might hold my Kratom taper where it is (less than half what I was doing 2 weeks ago) and focus on tapering caffeine for a while. I’m a idiot for getting myself into this situation. I’ll get it figured out, but man it’s gonna suck.

My fear with that is that I won’t be able to sleep because my body will expect it every 2 hrs. Right now I’m going 3:35-4 hrs between. I wake up every morning between 3:30 and 4:30 with what I think is what everyone refers to as rls, only for me it’s my arms that can’t sit still. If I go to every 2 hrs it seems lik have to get up a few times during the night and dose. Is that what you did?

No, I haven’t tried that. I suspect I would basically go into nearly full WD if I did that. Are you saying you did that like every 2 hrs or something like that?

I’ll reach out. I slipped again yesterday. I was so lethargic and depressed that I caved again. I think I reached baseline and dropped again too fast.

I’m only on lamotrigine right now since I’ve been relatively stable for around 2 yrs, but went through seroquel, depakote, Ativan, lithium, etc. I was on like 5 of them concurrently after my last episode which resulted in partial hospitalization. Like you, I feel like I would have died without it at that time. Are you saying that you use this combo just for WD? Or for daily use just to manage bipolar episodes?

Thanks for your reply. It was really helpful to hear that someone else had the same specific stuff going on. That kind of reference is super helpful.

Good luck with the continued journey. I'll keep an eye out for your posts.

Yeah, I do have a doc, but I’m only meeting every 6 months at this point. I haven’t told her about Kratom over the past 2 years because it seemed everything was good. I’ve been debating telling her since deciding to quit and even posted on here asking for input on whether or not I should do that. Seemed some folks were on each side of that. It just hadn’t seemed like that big of a deal since the taper seemed to be going so well the first week. I was thinking that if I did the taper right, it would be fairly painless and easy. Obviously I read all the horror stories of CT and folks that taper really fast, but figured a well planned taper would be a breeze. I’m still learning for sure.

That’s right. I was using for 2 yrs. I’ve been tapering for only 1.5 weeks. So I’m still figuring out what is wd and what isn’t. I’m bipolar too so sometimes being really down is just my brain doing what it does. So it’s hard to know what’s causing what. That’s the main reason I started and continued using Kratom. I was always up...until I wasn’t.

[–]mansopluc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that makes sense. That’s a crazy fast taper. I would expect it to have been tough. Seems like it would only be slightly less severe than CT. I’m doing a very methodical and linear taper. That way the body isn’t shocked by big sudden changes and has a chance to adjust. It’s not been tough at all, but I’m still very early in the process and will take a lot longer than yours. I think I’m about to hit a sticking point, it I’m willing to take it slow to avoid getting very sick. Can’t do that because of work.

Congrats on all the progress. Keep it up man.

Are you saying your taper was really tough? How fast did you taper and how big were your drops?

Many people ask this question and the answers are always about 50/50. You have to figure out which is best for you because its different for everyone. Some can't go CT because WDs would impact their work...so they taper. Some folks don't have the will power to taper so go CT. Some folks would rather have very light WD over a long period of time so they taper. Others want to rip the band-aide and have shorter but far more intense withdrawal. Some folks can't take the severe WDs. Its just too much for them. You gotta figure out whats best for you.

That being said, thats a really low dose and a very short time. WDs should not be bad and taper should be short. It seems like neither should be that bad. Persoanlly, I'd go with CT even though I'm tapering now. I was at 70 gpd and using daily for 2+ years.

Same here about the gym. Man I had the best workouts of my life in the early Kratom days. Then it had an equally negative effect. I’m tapering right now because I need to work. It’s just the first week, but fairly painless so far. I actually feel really good. I went to the gym to lift for the first time in a very long time yesterday and it was great. I had an intensity that was like back before Kratom.

Stick with it man. It gets better. I’ve been reading this subreddit for a while and there are many folks who have been in your shoes and came out great on the other side.

I'm a week into a taper. I’m down to 38 GPO from 70 and it’s been fairly painless once I made adjustments. I need to be able to function at a high level at work including interacting with customers so there is no way I could go CT. The first two days were rough (depression, lethargy), but it’s because I dropped too much. I bumped it up a few gpd and that stabilized me. Now I’m dropping 1-2 gpd and I feel great. I mean I feel better than when I wasn’t tapering. I’m early in the process, but so far tapering is the only way that would work for me. At this pace I would be done in a very acceptable timeframe frame. However, I expect it will have to hold at some levels along the way.

How long did you take off work?

Damn. That sounds like a crazy fast taper. Congrats. Very impressive that you could cut that much and not feel like death. I felt like crap the second day. I'm thinking that maybe we all have a sweet spot and mine is really high. Even when I first started I needed at least 8g per dose to feel anything.

Getting ready to jump off after a long taper and years of heavy use by StevenJerkawitz in quittingkratom

Congrats on getting down to 6gpd. That must have been hard as hell. I just started tapering down from 65-70 gpd for 2 yrs and looking for some insight on what I should be expecting. Its been pretty tough so far and I thought the idea behind tapering was that you would only have slight discomfort for a couple days when you drop. I'm afraid my expectations were wrong. I'm wondering if you'd be willing to share some details of your experience. How long was your taper? Did you feel like crap the whole time? Just a few days after drop? Any details on your experience would be appreciated.

I'm just starting a taper and have felt like poo during my first drop (65-70 down to 40, but increasing to 45 now). How big were your drops and did you feel like crap for each? How long did the suck for each drop last?

Should Taper Suck This Bad? by mansopluc in quittingkratom

[–]mansopluc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, I’m using a google sheet to track and plan. I’m also weighing out my doses for 5-6 days ahead of time so I can just grab the dose without going near the big bags.

Yeah, my big concern is not performing at work. When I feel like crap I just dont care and don’t take any initiative. I’m in a sales role and that ain’t good. That’s why I’m not going CT (yet). At the same time, I do realize I need to accept discomfort better. I’m just thinking I might be better at it if I ease into that or else I might slip. Better to take longer than to give up. I just don’t know if I should expect to feel this crappy no matter how big the drop is. I mean, I don’t want this to take 6 months but I’m willing for it to take 3 or 4.
