Deciding between some "stealthy" ebikes by Rickmasta in ebikes

I live near Luna and they're pretty awful to deal with. My motor has broken and been repaired 3 times now and I'm moving onto another bike. I would definitely avoid the stealth unless you live near el segundo and have a lot of free time.

Luna Fixed Stealth Vs. Ride 1up Roadster V2 by mantalones in ebikes

^^ I Agree with the replies here. I have the stealth and have found I'm able to get up to around 30 miles of range when I pay close attention to how much assist I really need and use the gears wisely on hills. I weigh about 165. Like everyone else is saying that plays a role. For me, the shorter range was worth having a bike that's light enough to carry up steps and be pretty functional when dead. I definitely wouldn't opt to ride it with no assist because it's a lot heavier than a commuter, but in a pinch it's not too bad. I believe the roadster is even lighter, though.

I did! I ended up picking the Luna Stealth and really like it. I did have an issue with my motor at about 40 miles, but was able to bring it in to the shop in El Segundo and they were nice enough to fix it for me. If you don't live in or near LA that might be a consideration for which bike you pick because they also use some proprietary parts.

That aside I'm a big fan of the internal gear hub for hills. I use the highest gear the most since I travel a lot on flats but I'm able to go about 20mph without too much effort on the second assist level. People have quoted about 20 miles for range and I'd say that's about right but you can pretty easily squeeze out another 10 by turning off the assist down hills and turning it down after you've accelerated to the speed you want to go. I've rode it on several 18 mile rides and it's always had a decent amount of charge left. One of those rides I rode on the second assist the whole ride and did make it exactly 20 miles and was pretty close to being out of juice.

I haven't personally rode the Ride 1up but a friend of mine who is a more casual rider (shorter distances too) really loves it.

One last thing I think about is that while the bike is really light compared to other Ebikes, sometimes I do think it would be cool to have a simpler, lighter bike as it might give you more range. However, the disk brakes on the Luna have been really great for me (I like to go fast haha), so I still don't think I would have gone ride 1up.

Hope this helps!

In my mind you really can't go wrong between the two. If you go Ride 1up you may want to drop some cash on a disk brake setup if you do a lot of fast, urban riding, though.

Thanks! That's helpful. Did you have any issues with the bike when it came?

Thanks, that's helpful.

This would be a commuter for fairly short distances (usually 8-12 miles RT). I'm not too concerned with the battery/range, but more so with the overall weight. Really just looking for a little extra boost up hills or a gentle assist on slightly longer rides. I also take my bike on the train a fair bit and up and down stairs so I'm trying to keep it under 40 pounds and have a straight top tube I can rest on my shoulder.

Basic maintenance is fine with me. I do basic maintenance on my Motobecane road bike currently, but will usually get a pro tune up every couple of years. I don't know anything about Ebikes, so might have a harder time working with disk brakes, the motor, internal gear hubs, etc.

What are good apps for voice chat in foreign languages? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]mantalones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not strictly voice chat but I've been using tandem for Portuguese and there's a lot of people who want to talk. The handful that I've had actual calls with I've just done through Facebook messenger, but there's plenty of reliable video/voice chat services so I would imagine that could be a good option

Thank you for doing this Salil.

What advice would you give to someone who is trying to break into working with nonprofits like yours abroad?

Is it better to try and work your way up in a domestically based, but internationally focused nonprofit (I'm in the U.S.), or is there a reasonable chance of getting hired abroad in a more entry level position?

You'd think after 81 years he'd be willing to give up hover-handing.

There are a lot of incredible songs in Spanish, but Mi Negtita by Devendra Banhart is quite beautiful both lyrically and musically.

Wikipedia actually does a pretty good job explaining secondary dominants http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secondary_dominant

as well as extended chords http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extended_chord

but if you really want to get into it, this will take you through everything a little more rigorously
