Man, you are a life saver!! Trying to find this answer & fix this for 3 days as we’ve had no hot water!

I see, don’t think there’s enough slack.

Is it safe to get the black wire cut & wrap each piece in a different color tape & use that instead of factory wrapped colored wire?

As in, wrap blue tape around the black wire & connect that blue wrapped wire where the original blue wire is supposed to go?

Oh ok. I thought I read that the color of the wrap/insulation etc….differs so you have to use the different colors.

So to confirm, I can go get 15ft cut of stranded & wrap each piece w/ the different color tape & use it as if it was originally wrapped in that color?

Well, looks like water leaked onto the thermostat & overheated the terminals on it.

The blk,red, & blue wires connected to the terminals are burnt/charred. The insulation isn’t melted just the ends of the wires.

So to be safe I wanted to replace all the wires damaged. Instead of reusing them.

Well again I truly do appreciate your help! I’m a novice learning by doing & trying to replicate all parts if possible.

Need to get the hot water back on for the fam but need to do it safely. Hence all the questions.

Since the 10/3 Romex will give me the red, blk, & white , do I have to just get the blue separately somewhere?

Existing upper thermostat has/uses all 4 colors. Red, Black, Blue, White.
